I was shooting reloads through my SIG P228 in the first week of Aug '24 when the slide came partially back and was just stuck there. Nothing was stuck in the barrel at this time. Though the empty case was still there (partially chambered). I tried pulling backwards on the slide with force (as much as I dared). And, I also tried pushing forward too. I got no joy. The slide only moved maybe 1-2 mm. BTW, this pistol is a W. German made Sig. The slide is folded metal, not forged (like the P229s). And, the frame is aluminum. I couldn't even disassemble the slide off of the frame. Not that the disassembly lever was even close enough to the correct position.

After a few days of tinkering with it. I finally gave up. Rrrrright...... I figured it would be BEST to have it "Factory Repaired". I didn't want to break it even more. LOL.

So, I contacted Sig and was told how to pack and ship it to them. Yes, I had to pay for shipping. They put it on my CC ($55 to ship one way) and they sent me an e-mail shipping label. I packed it up as they instructed. Then, affixed the label and dropped it off on Mon/8-5-24 at my local FedEx shipper. None of those "pesky" questions and no hassles. I got a tracking number and received updates while it was in shipment. It arrived at the NH factory on Thu/8-8-24.

On Fri/8-9-24 I got the call from the Sig Repair shop. They said that their preliminary investigation showed that it was probably due to a bulged barrel.

Ok. And what's NEXT?

Well, it can be fixed.....with a new barrel and the takedown lever will have to be replaced. Call it $180. BUT.....we'll do the job for $100. And, add another $55 to ship it back.

That sounds great.....proceed with the repairs.

Tues/8-13-24 they were finished with the repairs and began the process of shipping it back to me (at my home). Another tracking number was provided.

Today, Thu/8-15-24 I got the delivery. Of course, I had to sign for it. The repair looks fine and they included the old bulged barrel. This new barrel does NOT have a ser number.

OK, Ok, ok..... I wasn't expecting that they would number it to match the old slide and frame numbers. But......maybe???? Nah......you're dreaming.

Aloha, Mark

Sounds like you got better care than what you would get from Staccato.

While ago I had to have a slide replaced under warranty. The new slide did not have the serial number on it like the original.

I do not know why the even do that in the first place, or dont when repaired.... ?

Glad to hear Sig took care of you and at a reasonable charge . Was the bulge at section forward of throat or at end of the barrel ? Would like to see a picture of that . P228 is one pistol you want to hang on to . :)

Picture of the bulge. Towards the muzzle end.

The side was stuck about 3/8" to the rear.

The COAL is short for that lot of reloaded 9mm. It passed the "plunk test". But then, I had some feeding problems feeding cartridges from the magazine. Next time, I'll try for a bit longer COAL.

Nice bulge... ;)

Is that a sketchy-a$$ sig in your pocket or are you just happy to see ol' FATAL...

Wow . You can see the witness mark on barrel from wedging in slide barrel hole . Somehow there must have been enough clearance in the slide when the barrel tilted down so they could tap slide back to slide lock position & rotate disassembly lever .

RE : Is that a Sig in your pocket?

Rrrrright….IMPRESS the ladies with a holster like this one.

IDK the details…..but maybe, they had to drill out/destroy the disassembly lever in order to get the slide (barrel) to release? Pounding on the slide would/might have risked damage or destroying it (if done incorrectly). And it's NOT like folded metal slides are available anymore.

Hummm……maybe John M. Browning had the right idea with the removable front barrel bushing system (ala M1911)?

True . I forgot that they removed the lever assembly . That indeed would give the ability to remove slide . I scaled down barrel picture to measure with my digital calipers the barrel outer normal diameter got .550 . The bulge is .580 ish . Interesting .
