It's all enough to make you cry. The scam that cheated Dino Rossi out of the governor's office. Big dummy Jay Inslee in office for an agonizing 12 long years. Ferguson torturing the Right Wing first as AG, now as governor. The pain won't be felt by all the many Dem. supporters who rely on free stuff from that party. The party that keeps on giving. Rent moratoria, rent subsidies, "affordable" housing schemes, free bus fares, free school lunches for all, free tuition for non- citizens, free health care through Apple Health, et al.
The "dependent" crowd is what scares me. That free money is going to get cut off some day. This state is already in trouble for money. Now they are chasing off more of those who pay. If this "free" stuff ends there will be riots from people who have never had a job and have no clue how to support themselves.

Online Petition? Talk about pissin' into the wind and tugging on superman's cape all at once. Don't misunderstand me now; I'd dearly like to see the governor ousted, but an online petition like that has no more legal effect than writing on water.

It took me less than 40 seconds playing with AI to get the following summary of legal requirements for petitioning to recall the governor of Washington:

To have legal standing in Washington state, a petition to recall the governor must strictly follow the format and processes outlined in the state's constitution and Revised Code of Washington (RCW) Chapter 29A.56
. It requires specific grounds for recall, a precise legal process involving the superior court, and a high number of verified voter signatures.

Grounds for recall
A recall is only permitted for certain legal reasons, not for policy disagreements or political motives. The official must have committed or knowingly failed to act on one of the following:

  • Malfeasance: An unlawful act while in office.
  • Misfeasance: The improper performance of a lawful act.
  • Violation of the oath of office: The knowing failure to perform a duty imposed by law.
Step-by-step recall process

1. File a recall charge

  • Prepared by: Any registered voter in Washington state can file the initial charge.
  • Contents: The charge must be a typewritten, sworn statement detailing the alleged wrongful acts. It must include the approximate date, location, and nature of each act.
  • Filed with: The charge is filed with the Washington Secretary of State, who serves as the state's election officer.
2. Obtain a ballot synopsis
  • The Secretary of State's office forwards the charge to the attorney general for review.
  • The attorney general drafts a concise ballot synopsis for the charge.
3. Court review of legal sufficiency
  • The attorney general transmits the ballot synopsis and charges to the superior court.
  • A superior court judge determines if the charges are legally sufficient. The judge must confirm the allegations and that they constitute malfeasance, misfeasance, or a violation of the oath of office.
  • Petitions are often dismissed at this stage if the court finds the charges are vague or relate to policy disagreements.
  • The court's decision can be appealed directly to the state Supreme Court, which can significantly delay the process.
4. Collect and submit signatures
  • Timeline: After the superior court issues a sufficient ballot synopsis, recall sponsors have 270 days to collect signatures for a statewide office.
  • Requirement: Sponsors must gather signatures from legal voters equal to 25% of the total number of votes cast for all gubernatorial candidates in the last regular state gubernatorial election.
  • Petition format: The petition must include the following:
    • The name and office of the official being recalled.
    • A statement directing that a special election be called.
    • The court-approved ballot synopsis of the charges.
    • The warning prescribed by RCW 29A.72.140.
  • Signature information: For each signature, the petitioner must also print their name, address, city, and county of voter registration.
5. Signature verification
  • Once filed, the petitions are sent to the Secretary of State for verification of signatures.
6. Hold a recall election
  • If the number of valid signatures is sufficient, the Secretary of State certifies the petitions and schedules a special recall election. The election must be held between 45 and 90 days after certification, and cannot be scheduled between the primary and general elections.
  • Voters are asked to decide whether or not to recall the official.
  • If a majority votes to recall, the official is removed from office.
Even done "by the book", it is a stacked deck every. single. step. of. the. way!
If I remember correctly, I think this is 100% correct. I did a recall, on my own with no legal help, against a now ex mayor of my city and it was a lot of work. I should add it was while working a 40+ hour week job.

The case made it to the state supreme court where they sat on it for days. State law clearly stated a recall petition would take precedent over ANY CASES before the court and must be heard in a given time frame. My opponent attorney & myself wrote letters asking why the case was being delayed. We received a semi nasty letter from the court basically telling us to GTH & they'd take the case in their own sweet time. When they finally decided, they kicked it out on a technicality, never mind the facts were valid. The technicality was I classed the city wrong in my filing. I don't remember what the class was, only that it was 'wrong'.

I write the above only to point out it can be brutal to do a recall. On the plus side, my recall efforts raised enough news that got the individual unelected at the next election cycle. In essence, he received 1 vote out of 100... I lost the battle but won the war.

Side Show Bob is again the same results as I1639. WAY too many sat on their hands when Jay got put back in 3 times. Then when he finally figured he could not win many who should know better started to tell anyone who would listen to not vote for Bob's challenger. So now we got Bob and we will have him a few more years. Seattle is about to elect a further left Mayor than the defect they have now for the same reason. Maybe this will cause enough pain to wake more up. I often laugh at the fact that Jay when he got done making a mess here promptly moved to another state. That speaks volumes about the mess he made here.
