QBZ-95-1 Chinese standard rifle

I saw this article below and was curious if anyone has fired any firearm chambered in 5.8x42 that was, say captured somewhere in or around Iraq or Afghanistan?? Or physically seen the ammunition.

The one thing that comes to mind about these rifles is that they use a round different than the traditional AK/SKS platform...so those that prepped with AR's chambered in 5.45x39 and 7.62x39 will find them useless when the ammo dries up and there is only 5.8x42...

Does not seem that Russia uses this round, or do they??

Looks to me like a solution for which there is no problem.

Why would Russia, that probably has half gazillion rounds of their own 5.45x39 to shoot off, want to use this oddball calibre?

I believe the OP is talking from a 'Defense against Foreign Invasion' point of view. If that is true, you get the rifles from the same place you get the ammo.

Never seen it or fired it but we were told there was some chinese bases around the area of Afghan we were in. The only non US rifle i got to fire and play with was the french FAMAS, which was pretty sweet tbh.

Never known anyone whose played with these either.
