Does anyone use those covers I've seen on ebay that cover your carry optics to protect from dust, dirt and such? I saw one a while back that had a peice of string or something that pulled the cover off the optic as you draw from your holster. I could not find it again, and I was wondering what folks do to keep optics clean, while staying fast to draw, meaning not adding an extra step of removing a cover. Mine always gets dusty after concealed carry for more than a day, and I don't always have a microfiber cloth and cleaning solution on me.

No.

If you get a closed emitter this is no longer a problem. Although carrying with an open emitter I never saw it as a problem either. A cover would just end up being another snag point.

I'd still recommend one to protect the lenses against single hand racking techniques and UTM/Simunition strikes.

Pretty sure I wouldn't have clearance with the irons up front.

Lint and dust not a problem as I use tritium sights on my CC's.
Except for My 1911, that has a Leupold DP Pro, it came with a very thick rubber cover which stays on it all the time... BUT NOT when I carry. Its fits tight on, making it slow to get off. No problem, I found no mater how dusty or built up of lint it gets, it is never enough to obscure the red dot . When I shoot, booth eyes are open, and I don't really look through the lens, I look at the target and put the red dot on it. so dust or lint on the lens isn't a problem, as long as the dot shows through. I can clean it off when I retire for the night.
I keep, where I keep the gun, a little camera lens brush with an attached billow that shoots out air when you squeeze it that cleans off anything loose.

At least that works for me.
