Powder suggestions for 9mm subs

I am looking to create a load for a 10" 9mm sub gun, but as a lefty the most important qualities aside from it being quiet and reliable is to be clean burning with minimal blowback back to my face.

With the state of powder prices these days, can anyone point me in the right direction and shallow out the learning curve?

Start with the 147gr bullet of your choice. Most loads will be subsonic. However, that 10" barrel will give you a lot more velocity than you might expect. Possibly up to 150 fps on average compared to a 5" pistol. I have had good experience with Accurate #7 and VihtaVouri N320 and N340. These all all known to be clean burning so long as the charge is not too light.

With regard to blowback, are you planning to be shooting these in an AR carbine ? If so, you will probably also find that a heavier than typical buffer is helpful. Note that heavier buffer does not necessarily imply heavier spring. The site https://blowback9.wordpress.com/ has a lot of information on the subject.

Appreciate the insight! I'd agree, making a load subsonic is the easy part. Trying to find one that burns all of its powder and doesn't spit a bunch of gunk out of the ejection port is a bit more difficult. My first batch of 147gr competition loads from Supervel was great, and did everything I wanted it to do, leaving me with no desire to work up a load for it but something changed and it's no longer as clean as before.


I'll be using a "bufferless" CMMG MK4 dissent, so I can't tune it in the traditional sense.

I've used 147 grain plated Berry's with Alliant Sport Pistol for my subsonic loads.
