Greetings, I was hoping some Luger experts might be able to help with my predicament. I recently purchased my first Luger. The upper half appears to be a matching 1917 Erfurt, I haven't determined what the frame is but the numbers seem to match itself. I went to disassemble it and found that the firing pin retainer will not come out. I can push it in and it will spring back. And I can rotate it back forth so the cam lines up with opening in the breech block but it will jump out like I see in many instructional videos. I'm wondering if it has mushroomed out or something but I'm new to these. I tried pushing it out from the back with a punch by hand but am hesitant to use too much force. Any help, ideas, or recommendations from someone more knowledgeable would be greatly appreciated.

A bent pin, Debris, rust etc. can inhibit its removal even if you are able to compress and twist it to its release position.
Also, a peened over entry edge possibly caused by using the wrong tool like a loose fitting screwdriver and slipping off over the edge burring it up. If you are absolutely you have it in the 1/4 turn release position, some light tapping with punch to drive it out, then stone down the issue. be sure to firmly hold the breech block so another burse wont happen when your peening it out.

Thank you for your reply. I'll give it some taps and try to work it out. Once out, is it advisable to replace it with a fluted firing pin for shooting? I've read the early pins can potentially damage things if a primer ruptures.
