Well, we have all heard of 'M1 Thumb' but I have 1911 Finger!

After making some adjustments on my new RIA today I was cycling it with my left hand - PUSHING - not pulling the slide and somehow my 3rd finger drifted into the ejection port and I released the slide and pinched the chit outta it!

Got a nice blood blister on it !!

If you use flush fitting mags, just wait until you pinch the meat of your palm while you're trying to seat the mag. I am NOT a fan of flush fitting mags. YMMV.

Well, not NEAR as bad as it looked yesterday as it didn't break the skin and receded overnight but still painful to the touch!

Yeoow! I've done this twice now, about two years apart. I guess my brain deletes files after two years or so. Learn from my mistakes, if I can remember them! 😳

While holding the pistol in your strong hand, (finger not on the trigger,) you can put your weak hand thumb inside the trigger guard and your weak hand forefinger on the recoil spring plug and just "squeeze".
The slide moves back, you've done an easy "press check" without having to grasp the slide.
Back when the Army was still using 1911s as regular issue, an MP at inspection, (using the slide release,) would drop the slide on an empty chamber, those guns probably had their slides dropped on empty chambers thousands of times over the years and it didn't hurt them.
If you have a nice gunsmith fit trigger job, it's better not to do that.
Dropping the slide on a round already chambered isn't so good either, it's hard on the extractor.

I didn't even know it was a "thing." I'd been shooting for years but one day I was shooting one of my guns that has flush mags...that I don't shoot much...and I got bit.

Been there and done that on my first Colt, a 1991 A-1. Got some Chip McCormick and Wilson Combat mags now. I have 9 Wilson's. Six have the extended base pads and three have thin base pads to use in my Miami Classic shoulder rig.

I have 3 Chip McCormick shooting Star Mags with the large bumper pads. Been running those three since I got my 45.

I have 3 Colt and 3 Kimber flush fit mags. I don't use them much, And I have 1 Colt Custom Shoo Mag. That seems like a Chip McCormick clone with a medium sized polymer, bumper floor plate.

I had some HKS 7 round GI style makes that were stamped Colt 45 Auto on the bottom, 3 of them, and I gave them to my son (he likes them) and 3 Wilson Combat mags with the short bumper, to use in his Miami Classic.

The flush fit mags get used at the range and that's it for mine.
