There is a recurring theme in the headlines now "economy is good"

The holiday shopping season has begun, and one Truist analyst says this year is already showing signs of improvement from last year.

According to Adobe's 2023 holiday shopping trends data, Black Friday online spending was $9.8 billion this year, a 7.5% increase from last year. Thanksgiving Day spending hit $5.6 billion, which was a 5.5% jump from 2022. ☝️ Is total BS, prices are up more than 7.5% over the last twelve months, People are spending more but getting less.

Many do not have a brain and just repeat what the news tells them to. Control the news and control the people.

If you want to avoid much of the inflation in grocery goods, shop at Grocery Outlet.

If you prefer to shop at Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, Trader Joes, etc, then my guess is you aren't too worried about inflation.

Grocery Outlets don't have as much selection as Waremart/Winco Foods. So far, Winco Foods haven't gone up in prices as much as Wal-Mart and Fred Meyer

Winco is great as well. They don't tend to offer as many deals on near expiration date items though. I shop Freddy's and Safeway as well but only on really good sale items and occasionally stuff from the day old baked goods racks. Franz bakery outlet stores also occasionally have good sales on day old baked goods. The people paying fresh prices are subsidizing those who buy the less fresh items. I thank them for that.

On the plus side, all the damage being done to us is making me stronger. I remember before Biden I couldn't carry $200.00 of groceries to my car without a cart. Now I can carry it out in just 2 or 3 bags on one arm.

I'm much stronger now.
🤬

YEP! it's just like every "new" item that hits the market. Those who jump in first help those who are willing to wait for price to come down. Look how it works with some new gun that hits? When we had the kids to feed and did not have the kind of income we do now we used to shop at one of the outlet food stores, and bakery a lot. Now that there is a WinCo close to us we spend a lot there. Not as wide a selection as the Wally or Fred's but, you can see the price difference. Wife makes dog food for the pack and scored a LOT of chicken on a great sale today and spent hours grinding it up and cooking up food for the fur balls who are going nuts due to the smell of it cooking :D

We shop at WinCo every week.
Some items have gone up nearly 200% in the last 3 years. Especially prepared meats like deli cuts, and the gyro meat they sell went from $2.99/pack to $6.29/pack.
Of course the produce hasn't increased much, but WinCo produce is and has been horrible for as long as I can remember.
Most of WinCo is below the trend, but we haven't changed our shopping habits at all and we're seeing about an extra $40 per week.

Not as bad as Safeway/Fred Meyer/Wal-Mart, a lot of their stuff have gone up more than 200%

This should be good news for consumers and maybe not so good for shareholders.

Edit:
I am crossing my fingers that this loss in pricing power will come to the firearms industry as well. I think it has already started.

Popped in to Burger King the other day (first time in a long time) and was surprised to see that the price of a Whopper is now $8.99. Not the combo meal, just the burger.

Now I gotta wonder if tavern/bar burgers are more expensive or not these days  haven't been in a real bar or tavern in a very long time. Last time at Red Robin, everything was a little more expensive, but not by as much as McD's and BK apparently.

This is what people keep voting for so they get what they ask for. Min wage is getting close to $20 an hour up here. Then the same people who wanted it act shocked that the price of everything they want made for them is going up. :s0092:

Not sure how OR does it. WA is one of a few states that ALL the "help" has to be paid Min wage. We don't have the exemption for places where staff make tips. So up here every person at any eatery or bar is making at least min, which is getting close to $20 now. Many, even most working for it, have no idea that the employer has to pay a lot more than that to keep that worker. So price of everything they sell has to cover that cost.

We had BK last night. I used a coupon and got three whoppers (no cheese, had to add that at home), three cheeseburgers and three Medium fries for $18.49. Seems high for fast food but since I voted for more inflation, that's what I get.
