could be. Sometimes there can be surprising, unexpected places like safeway handmade one of the best sandwiches I ever had.

For me, it's not the coffee, it's the donuts. There's nothing quite like a Dunkin'….

I'm not a big baker and stayed away from bread because of the patience of rising really.

Goodwill purchase $3 with a big dent in the side but…. Can't beat it

But I just discovered bread machines. Blows my mind. Put stuff in little pot pan thing then a few hours later….. friggin BREAD. Good bread too.

Just picked the easiest 1st recipe in user manual. Had to buy some bread flour but DANG.

Yes I can be pretty simple….. most days but this is wonderful.

Next up. Churning your own butter.

Then you can say you have mastered the bread and butter of Western Civilization :s0064:

When did you land here? To Earth, that is? ;)

I don't follow, she only seems to know that her kid can't afford anything.
Should be able to afford @ $40K salary. That's fulltime $20/hr.

And they're in Montgomery Alabama...woman states a 1 bedroom normal apartment, normal folks would want to live in (not a poop box in projects/gangland) - not high end. Just a normal 1 bedroom @ $1,300-$1,400...

Not PDX/NY/LA/Chitown/Seatac/Beantown/SanFran. Montgomery Alabama!

Still not seeing how she knows more than Dave Ramsey.

I can relate to this, completely. My oldest just started her first full time job today, 20 years old, coincidentally making that same amount. She's very independent and would like to move out on her own at some point in the relatively near future. She's already done the math and looked around at rent, and at $40k she'll absolutely have to have a roommate.

The price of real estate is insane now. We bought our house over a decade ago, just a regular, average house in town on a quarter-acre lot. If we didn't own it already, there's no way we could afford it now, and I make a lot more than 40k. I really wonder how my kids will be able to own a house in the future.

I like Dave Ramsey, used to listen to him a lot and we've always lived by the principles he preaches, more or less, but in recent years I find myself wondering if maybe he's lived in the big-money world so long now that he's lost touch in some ways with the average person.

Out of curiosity, how does his position of paying off debt and living within your means put him out of touch?

Granted, his philosophy falls a bit flat for higher income earners, but when is having no bad debt a bad thing?

I don't have a dog in this fight, I'm just curious.
