Looks like he opted to sell the old boy. It's in the classifieds.
Yeah unfortunately I've already spent damn near half the price of the gun buying a scope and mount that didn't work at this point I don't see investing much more into it. If anybody wants it for $80 it's all yours. If nobody wants it for $80 I'll just keep it probably just see the back of the safe.

I found another picture:

As Spitpatch stated, you'd have better luck finding the parts to rebuild the Redfield type sight mount that is mid receiver.

The problem is the bolt handle is completely straight and the bolt throw is straight up and back.
I don't think I've ever seen a .22 sporting rifle of that vintage with a straight bolt handle. I had to go back and look at the first set of pictures. The knob on the bolt handle seems oversized for the scale of the action. A closer look at the bolt shows that it appears to have been brazed or welded onto the bolt body. The knob looks like something from a military rifle bolt.

Believe me I was kind of surprised too never see that before.

Some times it just don't matter. 😁
No kidding! I had no idea how much of a hassle it would be to find a replacement sight for an older rifle now I know. It reminds me of when I bought my first AK and I didn't understand the Tangs are different and you can't just plug and play parts like you do on a AR definitely a humbling experience!

A guess on my part that was corrected later in the thread, as it is a block for a side mounted scope.

There are gunsight collectors and dealers that would probably have that Stevens sight and/or parts. Search the net. Gun sight tables at the shows are my favorite "loitering" place.

...and yes, you'll pay. But who else has a good ol' 56 with the original sight?
