I had LASIK years ago and only needed reading glasses occasionally. I had your issue in that the near sights were fine but then had trouble at a middle distance. I do not need glasses to drive but had trouble reading road signs and asked for glasses with a slightly longer focal point. They worked perfectly and I still use them for shooting (they're kept in my gun bag not the car! Think about itFor reading and working on close things I use reading glasses. I don't seem to have an issue with rifles but with handguns glasses on sights are sharp and target is blurry, no glasses target is sharp and sights are blurry. I seem to shoot better with glasses on but thought I would ask if anyone else had tips or tricks.
Costco is great. Ordered two pairs of glass from them Wednesday and one pair is back already.I tried to use America's Best but they wouldn't answer the phone for days and then they canceled my appointment many times before I went to Costco.. where I was 100% happy.
Not likely me lol. It was a long time ago I worked there and only for a short period of time.I know nothing about that business, but I know a lot of "chain" businesses are owned by investment groups, who are all about the $$ only. I worked for a company that went from privately owned to investment group owned, then got flipped a few times. The last group took an incredibly profitable business and eventually killed it. The atmosphere was toxic. Only so much blood comes out of a turnip.
The optometrist at America's Best who claimed the Costco prescription as my previous problem was a woman.![]()
I may have to try that.I switched over to a ghost ring sight on my Glock 43x. It has made a world of a difference. I figured I still shoot very well with my Peep sight 03A3 and the Peep on the M1 Carbine so why not do the same on my EDC. Wow what a great idea that's been.
Here is what I use: https://www.ameriglo.com/products/details/gl-4325
Look into getting progressive bifocal lens glasses. For reading and working on close things I use reading glasses. If you do, ask lots of questions.Look into getting progressive bifocal lens glasses.
I think they're different now.. the whole lens is exactly the same everywhere but because of magic they are not.If you do, ask lots of questions.
Things may have changed, but when I tried progressive bifocals, I took them back. Many types have what is called the "keyhole" effect where the lower part is fully corrective, but only the center of the upper part is corrective. In my instance I noticed it when I was sitting where I was looking at a TV off to my side and up. If I turned my head enough to see, it was blurry. If I turned to where I was directly facing the TV, it was in focus.
This translated to looking thru a scope in an uncorrected portion of my lenses.
This was probably 15 years ago.
The human eye can only focus on one thing at a time, therefore if you are target focused as you should be the front sight will naturally be blurry, it's normal.
Get a dedicated pair of RX shooting glasses. I had to do that for awhile. I took my gun in with me to the eye doc, and he flipped the lenses on the thingy till I had a crisp sight picture. For reading and working on close things I use reading glasses. I don't seem to have an issue with rifles but with handguns glasses on sights are sharp and target is blurry, no glasses target is sharp and sights are blurry. I seem to shoot better with glasses on but thought I would ask if anyone else had tips or tricks.
