Now that I have myself reasonably stocked, I can wait to buy until a smokin deal comes along. I tend to buy in larger quantities. You have to look at cost per round. I bought two 250 round boxes of my favorite 22LR rounds. It was half the cost to buy the same 500 rounds than to buy the same ammo in 50 round boxes.

Also online dealers often have weekly sales. Back in March I found some Underwood 45ACP ammo for 13 dollars a box. The same stuff was usually well over 20 bucks a box for a 20 round boxes of.20 rounds. They had 14 boxes left and I bought the last of it and gave a couple of boxes to my son.

I just recently got Winchester White box ammo in 45ACP for 18.99 a box of 50 after the sale price and my veterans discount on top of that price. Reg 24 dollars a box. They had a limit of 6, so I bought 6 boxes of 50.

I have limited storage space, so I am reorganizing my ammo storage locker. I probably have room for another 20 boxes of 45 ball.

Same thing goes for magazines for me. I don't really need anymore for the guns that I have, but let's say I find some Glock mags (OEM) and they are $17 dollars each on sale, I will grab a few.

I also buy mags for guns that I don't have yet, or for popular models that I may never own. May make for good bartering in the future. During the last panic, when you couldn't get get 22 ammo, I gave what had cost me 60 dollars worth of LRN 22 to my tax attorney as payment for my taxes being done.

It was like 18 boxes of Remington ( the lowest of the low lead round nose). And taxes were gonna cost me 300 bucks that year. He was happy and I was happy.

Ran to Bi MArt today and saw this. Lots of price reductions on ammo - and a couple powders as well.

SO - maybe ammo & gun purchase numbers are in a decline (currently) as per my OP.

Supply > Demand. Many forgot that before the last GREAT shortage some places were running deals on Powder and Primers where they would wave the Haz-Mat fee if you bought a good portion. Most ignored them until the next great panic hit and they were gone. Then once again there was no explaining to many of them why manufacturer's could not just double the output to catch up. So many imagine the places making this stuff just sits idle until needed then fire up and double or triple output. Does not happen in the real world. Sooner or later something will set off another panic and the stuff will be gone to the sound of a LOT of weeping and wailing. :s0092:

That's right. I started with 2 boxes of ammo one year ago. Now I have a small supply compared to most of you. I don't really need to buy anything but will if it's cheap enough. I refuse to be unable to shoot again because there's no ammo, or a box of 9mm is going for 50 bucks.

Mostly what I shoot these days is rimfire. I buy a brick of 22 LR every payday and that seems to be enough to shoot at my current pace and still have some on the shelf.

I have LONG tried to tell others to do the exact thing. If money is tight no need to use credit. Just buy a little more than you use. Keep doing that and when next panic hits you have ammo. Ammo stored well will outlive you so its not like its going bad if not used up. Sad that so many will not do this and when another shortage hits they get mad

The only caution I say on stocking up with cheap ammo is, stick to the major brands. If something cheap or unknown pops up, buy a box and try it. I found 3 brands that don't work for me. They still sell them, so others don't seem to have a problem.

Loaded ammo has a 30 year shelf life according to DOD.
Primers and powder NOT in a case will last forever.

20 years ago (or more) Dixie Gun Works sold Rev war powder until it was gone.
Then they sold all the civil war powder too.
All still good and fired clean.

I have 12,000+ 30-06 cases, and the stuff to bring them back to life.
Loaded, just under 500.

I bought a case of some cheap 9MM. Just for range use. The brand was Max Tech. I had never used it before, but my son had and said there were no problems with it, but usually I just buy Winchester, CCI and Federal.

THIS ☝️☝️☝️ For those of us to stock up for future you sure as hell do not want to end up one day finding out the ammo you have does not work or your gun does not like it after you have a lot of it. Couple or 3 panics back I had .22 ammo coming weekly. Year or so in Wife suddenly "found out" we were in a panic shortage
So she decided to "help" without telling me. UPS shows up one day, driver has an angry look on his face as he is humping several heavy boxes to the door. Wife had ordered like 7K on .22 ammo she had found. We had plenty of .22 ammo but hey can always use more. So sample some at range and its CRAP. 6 different .22's would not feed it and accuracy was more like patterns in every gun. Had the stuff for years and finally tossed it. Another was the stuff Win made called USA, it was 9mm steel case. Tried some, worked great and was cheaper. So bought a bunch. Then one day at range got the first ever in my life hang fire. Then another. Then couple rounds would not fire with good hits. Had never seen this with factory ammo. At this point I stopped using it. Went home and tossed the rest of it in the trash. Thankfully I had not bought a case of the damn stuff. 🤬

I find that Aguila, CCI, and Federal work well in all of my 22's. I have a bucket of Remington Goldens that I use in my single action revolvers no problem. But they aren't the best for semi autos, at least with my guns.

I am frequently at Bi Mart and have noticed the same thing with the shelves appearing more full.
I am in Bi-Mart often and always swing by and check out the ammo. If 223/5.56 is on sale I'll buy 6 boxes (three mags worth). I did that twice last week and also a couple of boxes of 380, cuz it was at a good price, too. I do this kind of purchasing fairly consistently. Enough so that I out purchase what I/we shoot.

I watched an interesting video about that new ammo company, CBC Global Ammo, being built in Pryor, OK.

I didn't realize they owned Magtech and Sellier & Bellot.

They claim to Mfg. EVERYTING 'in house' including powders and said some should be on 'store shelves' by next spring.
