Any ideas?

Have 8-10 of them like this in a batch of old brass.

I remember clearly, that at my grandfather's funeral in 1963, the blanks that the Honor guard fired (and I picked up 16 of) had red lacquer (or something) at the mouth of the casings..
 
What I've read so far would suggest the brass quality of blanks is inferior to live ammo and not designed to withstand the pressure of a live round. I wouldn't bother reloading them unless you're loading them again as blanks.

Appreciate it. Hasn't planned on it, I think trimming etc makes the necks short. Curiosity was the culprit.
