Gallup: Support rises for stricter gun laws, yet NICS checks up

A new Gallup survey taken earlier this month shows a rise of six percent among Americans for stricter gun control, according to a story this morning from The Hill, suggesting that Second Amendment groups have some work to do if they intend to turn that around.

Support seems to rise and fall, especially after big shooting events (hardly any surprise). Not long ago, Gallup reported a decrease in the number of folks that support stronger gun laws, then UCC happens, and, predictably, the numbers are up. No doubt they moved quickly so as to capture people while they are still worked up about the latest shooting. Those responses are critical to the anti-gunners moving their agendas forward.

Gallup is no friend to our side. But, the numbers don't always tell the story we get from the media. Trends are as important, if not more important, than any single poll. And if you look at the data from Gallup's own website, it would appear the country is becoming more interested in guns and less interested in gun control.

From Gallup's website, here is a graphic showing, since 1990, a gradual, yet overall consistent decrease in the number of folks that want more gun control. It's interesting to see that, since 1990, the number of folks that want more gun control has fallen by over 30 points! Does that mean we're winning hearts and minds, contrary to what the news agencies and politicians keep telling us?? You see a spike immediately after SH in 2012, but since then, the numbers are dropping again:

The percentage of homes with guns has remained fairly consistent, and seems to be on the rise again:

While we're at it, take a look at the number of folks that are Very Satisfied with the direction of the country versus the number that are Very Dissatisfied with the direction of the country. Notice any trends beginning in, say, 2008 compared to the previous years....? Looks to me like the most Dissatisfied years start after 2008...

And how about the number of people that think a gun in the house makes it SAFER??? Well, that number is on the rise as well:

Pollsters are whores. Just like gun writers. Willing and capable of producing any result that gets them paid. There are so many ways to cook a poll to achieve a predetermined result (and still be within "statistically valid" means) it boggles the mind.

Which leads us to:

"The MSM uses polls like a drunk uses a lamp post - for support, not illumination."

Anyone (and this explicitly includes the MSM) who cites a poll as any sort of fact has demonstrated they are not worth listening to. Period. Full stop.
