So, society is crumbling because women have more power now than they did before? Really? Women earning comparable wages to men for doing the same work does not equate to the demise of our social fabric. Women exerting influence in business and government (which impact their daily lives just as much as for men) did not result in the downward spiral you're describing.

Our education system turning into an indoctrination mill for generations of Americans, sure. I can buy that. Elimination of self reliance-oriented culture and the rise of convenience culture I can also buy. The pivot of our justice system from corporal punishment and hard time for criminal activity to the current slap & release model, absolutely. Medicating children to address behavioral issues, yeah. The rise in fearmongering by media to sell copy and increase viewership, sure.

Women are "the people" too, and entitled to all the same rights, protections, and freedoms as you are. And women should not have to rely on men to protect them, that's what the 2A is for. So, maybe try not disparaging an entire class of people because they're different.

Yes the rise of women but don't forget, the men that didn't put up much of a fight.

The OP is talking about the decline of our culture. It's not just one thing but the deterioration of the family is a big one. Women in the workplace, automaton, globalization and Marxist ideology as well. There are videos of Gloria Steinem talk about the CIA funding her for supporting feminism to advance US productivity.

I too grew up in California. I saw men throw hands when disrespected. I felt I lived in a free state and did a lot without asking permission. I hope the permission genie can be forced back into the bottle.

I don't necessarily believe it's women that caused the problem, but the two-income family. Their movement opened up a can of worms much bigger than equal rights. We've gotten to the point where you have to have dual income and someone else is raising your kids while businesses charge $8 for eggs and the .gov gets twice the tax revenue.

I'm not sure. One HH I know was an idiot coworker that commuted by bicycle even in bad weather. He got hit on 3 separate occasions and finally got some nerve damage and couldn't work. My BIL just stopped working about 10 yrs ago. My sister had a good job, but their kids were already out of the house.

Men out of the workforce I think are at elevated ages and generally not the same impact as single mothers with kids at home. Which I'm not against.

Minimum 7 day waiting period, and I think only for people who do not already own a firearm.
That swings both ways. It also prevents the person that would have the violence inflicted upon from getting a weapon to protect themselves from said aggressor.

It's just another arbitrary number picked out of thin air, much like 10-round mag limits. It's ok to shoot someone 10 times before reloading, but not 11?

Where does it end? 7 days doesn't work? Let's go 14...then 30, then 90....so on and so on.

Just different times that I don't agree with and we all have our own opinions, after all they're like elbows. ;)
I'll go back in my cave now.

Yes unfortunately the good old days are gone for all of here on the west coast as far as legally buying guns from friends without a paperwork trail.
I was 14 years old in 1967 in California when I bought a 12 guage mossberg shotgun from the local hardware store with no wait period . As kids we would walk through town with our firearms on our way to our hunting grounds, In high-school we had our guns in our vehicles on school grounds in plain visible sight, some free states have not changed alot with there gun laws.
Oregon is on its way to being another Washington and California and this really CHAPS MY bubblegum!!! Totally Unconstitutional and Un-American.
Yes, times change. In 1966-1970 I was stationed at an Air Force Base in California. I was on the base small bore rifle team. We practice shooting at the local high school rifle range. I bought my first hand gun, a Ruger Super Single Six, via the mail (about $119 as I recall). Times do change. As the Sgt always said, "Improvise and adapt".

Medicating children to address behavioral issues, yeah.
I was listening to the radio a few days ago, and caught a segment with a man bringing up how many vaccines were given to children 50 years ago, and how many are given to babies/children in current times. I don't recall now, but the difference was HUGE! He was suggesting a possible link to ADHD, Asperger's, Autism. etc. etc. Wifey being in the grocery biz sees and deals with these kids on a regular basis. The 20-30 something's have a LOT of personal issues that makes many of them pretty poor workers.

"Boomer" here, and proud of it! I grew up with both parents working full time plus. I would say, until I was in 10th/11th grade. Dad lost his job at a tech company and became one of the original "house flippers". It wasn't because they wanted to make as much as they could, it was probably a habit from growing up with very little during The Depression. At this time in my life I can safely say that you grow up a different person when you didn't have parents around 5 days a week when you went to, and got home from school.

Mind-altering pharmaceuticals (antidepressants), violent video games, rap "music", making it a crime to discipline your kids, the coming out movement of the 80's, teaching kids to hate their own gender or whiteness in school, replacing the US flag with a rainbow flag, removing "Under God" from the pledge of allegiance in schools, banning the pledge of allegiance, etc etc etc...

Yeah, let's blame the guns.

Right. I don't know where he got that information. If I had to guess, your first point regarding it preventing someone from defending themselves is likely not taken into account.

IIRC that number came up in the mid 90's with the AWB part of the "It's A Crime, Bill" package and was based on the FBI stat's of the average number of rounds fired by police in armed encounters. More IIRC, that number turned out to be totally bogus because it included suicides and a couple of cses were the officer was killed after running their 6 round BRT dry

I'm not disagreeing, but... I took a multi-state CC class, a while back and the instructor was a "been there, done that" dude. Knew his stuff. He had similar things to say about gun laws, except for one. Minimum 7 day waiting period, and I think only for people who do not already own a firearm. He claimed that amount of time allowed some of the hot-headed types to calm down and not take action. I have no idea how valid that opinion is. Does anybody have actual/reliable data on that?
It seems exceedingly rare for someone to go buy something for the purpose of harm and not just turn it on themselves.
Heat of the moment crime against others is exactly that, in the moment.

Uh oh... Andy is pissed!
Seriously though, I hear you. My argument against things like that is to present an example of something they could do that is even more destructive and readily available. Having said that, your position is more personal and authentic and I like that approach when having a conversation/debate with someone.
Nobody's mad bro.
We've just heard it too many times. And the position is as weak today as it ever was.

Someone bent on doing harm inside 24 hours has vehicles, machinery, chemicals, flammables, blunt force objects, pointy things , and whole host of really bizarre/creative ideas that I'm not sick enough to know about.

Gravity kills. How many times has a spouse or similar been lured to a high location and pushed to their untimely end? Is there a 7 day waiting period for taking a hike up a mountain trail?

Simple. Effective. Ruthless.

A joke as old as death

What would help.....
Spend the time and expensive to look into just why someone thinks that it is acceptable to harm others to get what they want.
As well as ....
Not tossing out data or information that does not agree with your preconceived notions or desired outcome.

All of the above takes actual work...as well as the aforementioned time and expensive.
All three are not popular with those who make and propose anti-gun laws.

The US is unique. 50 unique ideas but say, Ca, NY and TX lead the trends. Two of which happens to be where we get the majority of our information and decide what's normal. 🤔

The 2 least normal places drive what everyone accepts as normal and what the world thinks America looks and sounds like. If only I could live like Starkey & Hutch.

One problem with American society is, we started to believe TV Land was what our lives should look like. Bigger house, newer car, plastic surgery and a big one is kids acting like adults (no more yes sir, no sir). Next thing you know we have crips in Iowa and every Target looks the same no matter what state you go to.
