I recently bought a colt 1991Z4. What little i found online says the z indicates it's a custom. It's a nice looking pistol and I'm curious what the custom part is? Hopefully a colt expert can tell me something. It has 3 dot sights. I think the grips have been changed, there's an empty coolhand grip box with it. Pics aren't great but hopefully good enough.

I think that one is different even tho the model number is the same. Mine doesn't have the big 199a1 on the side of slide. Trigger has holes and mine has 3 dot sites. Mine has a shinier finish & doesn't have the lanyard loop.
 
After more reading I found this explanation.

FWIW, the "Z" designation is used for any model that has any part different from stock.
It could something as simple as a different set of stocks. Z has been used for decades.
