Good article I built one a few years back and had many of the same problems. I did drill out the gas port but not that big but I never looked at the feed ramp other than to polish it out. I could get it to work with some ammo but not others then when a couple of the bolt lugs cracked I killed the project and gave the upper to a buddy who still has it as far as I know.
