Trying to strip down my Yugo M48 to get the comosline out of the action for a soak in mineral spirits. Spent a few hours trying to get the front barrel band off. My methods 1) Use a hand grip type clamp till I pushed in the detent on the barrel band spring till I heard a " click". 2) I tried using a punch to tap it off on the corners of the barrel band with a microfiber rag to protect it and taped up the punch end. It doesn't seem to want to budge.... How in the world do people get these off?

Try what you were doing until it comes out. I had the same issue when I got mine and it took me 3-4 times trying and eventually it came off. Keep in mind that those rifles are near impossible to damage, so you do not have to be soft on them.
