I have a piece of lignum vitae that I would like to have turned to make a couple of small mallets. It is inch and a half square by twelve inches long...enough for three, I figure.

Can pay to have it done, or trade one of the three pieces. I've been told it's hard to turn, so I'm hoping to find someone who's worked it before.

Shoot me a PM if you're able to do this.

It is not difficult to turn.

Lathe tools need to stay sharp, and minimal clearance between the work and the tool post.

I turned a lot of Lignum Vitae in high school wood shop into candlesticks.

I have zero tools or equipment to do it or I would give it a go!

Where are you located ?
I have a couple wood lathes and would be happy to turn them for you.
Thing is being 1 1/2" square is not going to give you much of a mallet.
I'll try to check forum for answer but don't come on too often.

I'm not looking for something big...just a couple small non-marring tappers like ball peen, square with the edges turned off, etc..

I'm quite a distance from you anyway, I don't get up that way anymore. Thanks for the offer, though:)

If you can find a high school with a wood shop these days, you might try giving the instructor a call to see if a student would want to do it. It's been a few years but when I was in wood shop in high school, the shop teacher would bring requests like that to the students.
