I'm adding a Malcolm 6X vintage scope to my Remington #1 Sporting Rifle, which has been meticulously restored and re-chambered for modern ammunition. My eyesight is not good enough anymore to use iron sights and I've had no better luck with a Lyman peep sight and globe front end. So the Malcolm period scope arrived a couple of days ago and I've determined that it's going to take some drilling and tapping of the barrel to mount the base blocks for the scope. The barrel is an irreplaceable full octagon, tapered, original barrel so I need to find somebody who actually knows what they are doing and is an artist to do the work of mounting the scope. I've got about $3K in this thing so far and it looks exactly like it came from the factory in 1873. I don't want to trust it to some yahoo shade tree gun smith. I need recommendations.
