Have a SA TRP.
It's a good pistol but it can be better.
So it's time for some upgrades.

Trigger job
Adjust operation of grip safety
Remove ambi safety
Install extended mag release
Front sight replacement
and so on....

I want it done right.
Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance..BG

I sent my Colt to Wilson Combat. Choose a reputable 1911 smith and open the checkbook. The 1911 is a bit of a specialized trade in and of itself.

Sending it out to Wilson or Guncrafters or back to SA is always a possibility. I would prefer to find a local 1911 expert and work face to face.

Wouldn't mind learning how to work on my 1911's but this is too good a pistol to learn on.

Talked with Steve at the Carson Gun Show. Seeing him reminded me of wanting to sign up for a class or two.

Steve mentioned that the 1911 course goes in-depth disassemble/assemble, tune, tweek, measure tolerances, etc.

Late March 1911 armorer class at Cerberus.....May have to make a call. Would love to build a 2011 45 double stack cut for a red dot...... Will touch base with the other recommended smiths as well.

The TRP is a good pistol . Recent guns are more production orientated. TRPs were a better pistol before the bean counters killed the SA custom shop. With some fitment upgrades this could be a really fine pistol. Would prefer to keep the work local and personal.

I'm in the pistol right so spending a few hundred to make it better is OK.

The 2 tone TRP is the subject of this exercise. It's stainless buddy is a Dan Wesson Specialist overhauled in the SA custom shop when it was a real custom shop. Want to get the TRP where the Specialist is.

I've done quite a few SA TRP overhauls. Replacing all the MIM stuff, along with trigger job etc.

Can do most of that stuff in class as we go, as we get detailed with gauging and specing parts etc.

I agree, 1911 work is a specialized area for any 'smith. They are a very forgiving design, as they had to be for military use. Problem is...just because they are running, doesn't mean they are running correctly. They can chew themselves up in no time...if you know what to look for, one can stop the bleeding before it comes to unrepairable damage.
