Your best bet would be TiN plating. IMG_20140130_194440_928-1-2.jpg . Here is a photo of some 1911 parts I had plated for a customer of mine. PM me and I can give you prices. It is 3 times harder than chrome but looks like gold. I also do nickel plating. 1911 frame plated.jpg

Yes, there is also a TiN coating with carbon added. its a charcoal color. not as dark as regular bluing. its nice though and has the same wear resistance as the gold color.
