Is this light too far forward?Or bad to have it "hanging" out there? I don't plan on running it unsuppressed, and I needed to get it off the rail cause there's very little real estate for y hand (7" rail).

It's further than I personally prefer. But if it works for you that's what matters.
Same.

A smaller footprint light might also reduce a fulcrum loosening type problem from happening, with the same / similar mount. Keeping rail space available (as shown) for forward hand.

I also prefer a hand stop, or foregrip particularly on shorter barrels. For barriers & owie prevention…

If he wanted to run that light I would just get a different mount. Like a Haley strategic thorntail. Something like this. Doesn't take up much rail space and sucks the light in. I actually flip the mount in reverse if the light allows it. But again it's all personal preference.

Thanks for all the input folks. Not so interested in the looks or 'cool factor', more functionality and possibility of damage in that location. It doesn't flex too much - but I havent dropped it or anything. Illumination is great where its at. That mount puts the light in a great position to be thumbed without dislodging my grip on that tiny handguard.

I have a mount like that and there's just not enough room to run it - the Streamlight I have attaches more in the middle.

That's why I flip the mount around. Have the extension moving to the rear of the gun rather that out over the barrel/muzzle device. Depending on your light you may have to modify/remove material off the "arm" to get the light to mount. Here's a better/closer photo to show what I'm trying to explain.

You could also get a mount with a much shorter throw/arm so it doesn't hang out so far. Just an option. But if it works for you I wouldn't stress it. As long as you can efficiently activate the switch with removing/moving your hand position on the rail.

Bottom line, you should be able to activate the light switch simply by moving your thumb without shifting your grip, if you're unable to then the light is too far forward or you need a tape switch/button. As I mentioned above I like my lights forward on the weapon so that is where I place mine. However, I don't allow that fact to alter my normal comfortable grip so on longer barreled guns I place my switch where I can access it by moving my thumb only and not my hand. I will always use finger stops or vertical foregrips to aid in consistency of hand placement.
