I seem to recall in the last year or so seeing a member here at NWFA that had a bunch of lead bars/ingots for sale. I can't remember who that was and the search function doesn't seem to be helping me any. I recall he mentioned donating a portion of the sale to NWFA if an NWFA member makes a purchase?

Anyone remember that ad, who it was and/or know if it's still available?

I do remember that ad... I was trying to decide if I wanted to try my hand at casting or not. I can't remember the name, but I did contact him a few months later and was told he had finally sold it all :(

That was @Lilhigbee, and he's all sold out. Good stuff, tho'. @etrain16, are you short on lead?
@GOG, every sash weight I ever pulled out was pig iron. You have some in lead?

Well, short as in none ;) I'm looking at getting into casting my own and I'm interested in starting to build up some stock of lead as I head that direction.

And now that you mention the name, I do remember it was him. Seemed I never had the spare $$ when he had those available. Oh well, I'm sure more opportunities will come up. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, bummer. I'll just keep looking around. Seems ads like that pop up here from time to time.

Dang ... wish you closer etrain...got some lead you could have for the low , low price of free.
Sometimes stores put on clearance odd ball caliber lead round balls or bullets ... if you are just going to melt 'em down ... then this can be good way to get lead for a fair price.

That's a good idea, I'll have to keep my eyes out for those deals. In the meantime I do see folks occasionally putting scrap lead or home cast ingots up for sale at decent prices.

I have had to buy considerable amounts of scrap lead in the past (hundreds of pounds at a time)

My experience has been that when you need it, its hard to come by and expensive. When you have some you want to sell, Its worthless and no one wants it and the only way to get rid of it is give it away.

Funny how that works ;)

A kind member here has PM'd me with an opportunity to purchase some lead, so it sounds like I'll be set to get what I need to get started.

Thanks for the info guys! NWFA never fails to help where needed!

How much lead are you looking for? I can get pure lead, 3.5% tin and 6% tin. It's all scrap lead originally from a bullet manufacturer. I'll have to call for the current price.

Here's some pure stuff from a ways back. You'd have to harden it up (giggity) for most handgun bullets.

Info on $1/lb pure lead.. Portland

I forget the name and don't have their number any more. Maybe someone I gave their info to has their info?
It's a roofing place/shop on Mcgloughlin. Dead end stub of a street, west side of 99E around one of those roads by that ironworks and or old porn shop.. oh, right across from that stupid max-line "sculpture" .
CL is actually really good for lead, as it's a commodity and price should still be about $1/lb

Oh, and that'll learn me to read the thread first. lol

Thanks both for the info. It sounds like I'm going to be able to get what I'm looking for from a member. I do appreciate the assist though.

Etrain16, not sure where you are located but there is some casting epuipment on Salem Craigslist right now for only $60. I'm all set for equipment so I had to pass on this deal.

That sounds like an ad I saw here on NWFA too - a Lyman casting pot and a few other goodies? I have to pass on something like that at the moment too, but I'll get there as time passes. I do appreciate the heads-up though.
