Good info thx for posting that. I didn't realize holster had a hood. Does anyone know what holster this is? Seeing the holster by itself would tel us a lot. From that one pic I posted earlier it almost looks like the part that holds the gun has a bit of a fold in it as if it were made of elastic. But photo quality is so poor it could just as easily be kydex with the apparent "fold" built in
Multiple level 3 duty holsters have hoods.

This is also a prime example of why it is crucial during brief before beginning shift that the Watch Commander or Patrol Supervisor does an inspection on every officer they oversee. Not only for appearance but to ensure gear is correct.

Honestly I could care less about the hood. I am interested in the trigger area. Seeing the actual type of holster used would tel us a lot I think.
It would but I would be surprised if we ever know for sure. If they were using a recalled/unsafe holster then that's their own dumba$$ fault. Whoever was in charge of gear distribution and assignment should be read up on all of that.

I can see that the hood is down in some of the still photo grabs.
And I can see that the pistol is up and not seated, therefore the hood has to be down.
Like I said I may be wrong. Hell, I hope I am. I've never seen a hood that protrudes that far out of the holster when open. I'd like to know what holster it is.

This photo specifically. It also may just be the angle.

From what I can gather, it's a Safariland single strap drop-leg.
Some of the other Montville officers have Safariland mid-ride or high-ride holsters.
The taser holsters below show the single strap drop-leg similar to what the UD officer was wearing for his P320.

To me it looks like they are pointing to the pistol.
Not the point I'm trying to express. Yes the pistol is riding high. Which is what the red arrow is pointing at. I am talking about the portion protruding out of the front of the holster that the sig article is calling the hood. Obviously if the pistol is riding that high the hood has to be open…. Unless it doesn't have a hood/strap which would be along the lines of a level 2 holster.

Another safariland bulletin this one about lack of retention vs the one I posted earlier was about AD with cop struggling with perp.

Seems to me that the holster specifics and questions re holster need to be answered before pointing any fingers at sig.

Ps why the hell are those holsters so complicated and have so many parts inside of it? Seeing these holster pics makes me wonder what that guy at the west Richland range was using for a holster when his gun apparently went off right after holstering?

Hard to say.
I'd have to go through the still photos again.
However, I don't think it has any bearing on the UD.
It doesn't. Although Sig is pointing at what appears to be a TQ and labeling it a "hood." I wonder is Sig even sent a rep down to the PD to see the items in person, or are they just basing everything off the same video we watched?

From the get-go we all had questions about the holster being used correctly.
The still photos are grainy but clear enough to see the gun inserted correctly, the holster not properly securing the gun.
I have enough to conclude it wasn't the gun.

It's sad to see an entire PD cover up negligence at the cost of replacing their Sigs. Now they will still have the same issue but with a different gun.

They should call that one the flop-o-Matic. :p Or maybe it just has that new feature "gonad delete"?
If I were king, would not approve drop-leg holsters for my regular, uniformed officers.
IMO, high and tight is a safer location when tangling with perps.
The hip is a "quieter" location when running.

The more I look at Montville PD equipment, the more I think that they were lacking in equipment approval.

Can't issue competence. Stupidity will continue.

SIG was "snubbed" by this chief's sudden decision to dump all his P320's and buy all his people Glocks.
The account was lost so I wouldn't think that SIG would waste their time going down there.
I thought it was good that SIG got out in front of it, however.

It looked to me in the video, that this was to be a "teaching exercise" in how to shackle a non-cooperative detainee.
With all the other officers circled around and the "UD Officer" sort of "directing traffic".
Having said that, this was highly embarrassing since the UD Officer appeared to be in a leadership position.

Maybe this chief with his rush to order Glocks without seeing the forensics report, was trying to protect his Lead Man and put this thing to bed quickly ?
