Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid
specialist) having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has
worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital , Bombay Hospital ,
Saifee Hospital , Tata Memorial etc.. Presently, he is heading our
Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak
Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad (W).

The following message given by him, I feel makes a lot of sense
and is important for all to know

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a
global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid
coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact
with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1
infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of
symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple
steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can
be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

    1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official
    communications).

    2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch
any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).

    3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you
don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in
the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic
symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way,
gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy
individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate
this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

    4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day
with warm salt water. *Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or
Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities), but
*blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with
cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing
    down viral population.*

    5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in
Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to
supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc
    to boost absorption.

    6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can.
*Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the
reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the
throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or
    do any harm.

I suggest you pass this on to your entire e-list. You never know20
who might pay attention to it - and STAY ALIVE because of it.

I like Dr. Goyal's approach. Notice that he is not shilling for Big Pharma in trying to get you to inject mercury, formaldehyde, glycol (antifreeze), aluminum and LIVE flu virus into your bloodstream (that's what influenza vaccines contain).

My point exactly, there are alternatives to most anything. And some are even environmentally friendly. LOL

His advice sounds like my late Great-Aunt Mables who went through the Great Depression down in Douglas County towards Coos Bay.

I have NEVER had a single flu shot since they started them in 1976 and I have continued to work full time. I have NEVER missed ANY time off sick with flu during all those years.

    I don't like flu shots.

My parents always try to get me to take them every year, but there's no need really. I haven't gotten the flu in a long time. But they've both worked in medical professions, so they are under the impression that shots are 100% safe, when they aren't.

That said, I'll only take shots for very serious diseases. But seasonal shots are a joke. If there isn't an extremely high mortallity rate (or extremely bad effects caused) by the disease, you'll have trouble getting me take them.

    Good advice.

Recently the State of New York ordered ALL medical people (doctors and nurses) to get a Swine Flu shot or lose their jobs. More than 40% of these medical profesionals said "NO!" Thousands of these medical people went into the streets and protested. What was going to happen? Would the State really fire that many people? Who was going to BLINK first? For now, we'll never know, because a judge over-ruled the State's edict and those profesional medical folks will NOT have to take this shot! HOORAY FOR THEM!!!

Actually the first flu shot I know of given to the masses was in 1969 to ward off the Hong Kong flu.

Well, let me rephrase that. I have NEVER had a flu shot and I never will unless someone is holding a gun on me! I believe I will follow that lead of a huge and growing number of health professionals and stay away from that POISON!

I don't know. My wife has a masters degree in health care risk management (after her RN, BS,) and is an exec for a company which owns some hospitals.

She has been out of town to a couple of seminars on this h1n1 and she's convinced that it's a better risk to get the shot.

Not many people have died yet, but the cases are increasing on an a curve that's worrisome. We're in phase 1, almost like the first month. There are lots of cases in California, and it's working its way up the I-5 corridor. There are lots more cases in the Rogue Valley (Medford area) than there are in Portland for instance. Two people have died in the Rogue Valley and lots more are sick - many not critically.

No one knows how bad this will be because it's uncharted water. I do believe it will get lots worse before it gets better.

Another thing. About 10% of Hospital beds in California are occupied by h1n1 patients at this moment. That's pretty severe; almost shocking. Also, hospitals have to admit and treat people even if they can't pay. This isn't good for business if you're a hospital. It causes the hospitals to delay profitable surgeries and anything else elective and profitable because they are swamped with providing h1n1 isolation and care, even isolation in intensive care, and often for free.

Last note. There isn't enough h1n1 vaccine yet even for hospital employees. There isn't even enough yet for those who provide direct patient care. There is real concern that patient care providers could get sick and become patients and overwhelm the system. I'm talking about RN's and LPN's and housekeepers and food service and janitorial and... Not enough vaccine yet. About 2% of hospital employees in Oregon have been vaccinated.

    Just my three cents.

Dario, I wasn't trying to be a smartA**, even though I can be at times. I just was in 8th grade when that came around. They had just developed the Oil-Jet-Gun that injected without a needle. I was one of 30 out of 300 that didnt get the shot. We all had a blast while all the others were out sick.

I am older now and I will get both the annual flu shot, and the H1N1. I work as a paramedic and have seen many things that vaccines have been treating for years. That have developed in people who didn't for whatever reason get the vaccine..........

Dario, if flu vaccines really contained all the things you mentioned I wouldnt get one either but since they DONT, I will continue to get one every year, even had my H1N1 this year.

No Live influenza is ever injected....its dead pieces parts of viruses which are actually masses of proteins etc, theyre not really even alive.

The Mercury that is used in infintesimal amounts is ethylmercury, which is excreted by your respiratory system and will not remain in your body like methylmercury which is toxic, and if you eat tuna or fish or shellfish your getting more mercury there, than from a hundred flu shots

most of the things you list are in every day food and drinks that you consume, dont believe all that you hear. YMMV

Let's make a deal! You get your shot and I will pass. I know that our food, water and air are full of toxins, but I see no reason to allow some one to inject even more toxic waste into my body. I hope you enjoy yours!

The danger of h1n1 is that it promotes secondary infections in vital organs. That's how people are dying.

We have had two more severe h1n1 cases in the Rogue Valley now where the patients got secondary infections in their lungs and hearts. They had to be put in a heart-lung machine to sustain life. The problem is, we don't have any of those machines here.

A couple of days ago the NG was good enough to send a Blackhawk with med-evac capability and fly a patient to Portland to get into a machine. I didn't know a Blackhawk was so big (and heavy,) but it couldn't land on the helipad. It had to land in the hospital parking lot.

Don't worry about the dangers of the vaccine. You aren't going to get it anyway. There isn't enough to go around even for medical care providers and law enforcement so you're on your own. By the time the vaccine arrives in quantities and if there's a true pandemic, it will be too late for you (and me.)

I don't know if this will be really widespread and a big deal over the winter, but good luck to all.
