That sounds like a terrible idea. Kinda like progressive loading a shotgun.
I can see stagger loading /buck/slug/buck/slug etc with a shotgun used in the backcountry as an a$$ saver, but I have no idea how you could use that poster's idea selectively, even in a revolver.

When I see people bring in their carry platforms with FMJ loaded, I ask them if they are prepared to be behind bars themselves if they need to defend themselves....

Usually, saying, that bullet is going right through a threat and also taking out the innocent person behind them...

I do carry an extra mag or quick strip with some solid rounds being machined projectiles but it's kept on the same side as my carry so it can't be accidentally grabbed and a spare mag of JHP opposite my carry...

That special mag is only loaded where in the woods when deeper penatration is desired for 4 legged threats.

I have to admit that in my youth when I was a guide in Alaska, that I loaded my Remington 870 bear deterrent with alternating 00 buck and slugs. Buckshot was first up. That was on the advice of a 70+ year old guide who taught me the ropes of guiding on the Nushagak and Mulchatna rivers.

In my years on those rivers, I only had to drop hammer on one bear and the 870 was nowhere close by. In that case, it was a S&W Model 66 at 12 feet with 180gr solids that did the job.

Nope, use a single load best suited for the expected situation, port load if need to switch. I keep 00 buck loaded with slugs on standby if I need to "rifle" my shotgun.

Staggering ammo in a magazine is lame.

Not advocating one way or the other, as if I did, 50% of the folks here would immediately pig-pile me. You know, the internet and all...

It's been a few years, but at my gun club there was a LEO from a nameless top secret agency on the range, and I asked him what they carried. He said they staggered HP and ball, all through the magazine.

I have been known to put buck in one barrel and shot in the other on a two triggered SxS when multi species hunting. I'm weird though and also been known to sport a .223/20 ga Savage 24 in the field as well.

Are people still doing this? Appears more of an education is in order.

What's the chance that the right round that you think you'll need for a specific situation will chamber at the right time....please stop.

See post #16. It appears someone here does.

Does it make you feel better that it's only loaded with buck now? :s0112:

In the two shotguns I have now I do the same. On the Police model the tube is loaded with OO. On the side more of the same. Hanging with it is a bandolier of ammo. Half of that is OO half slugs. Only reason for slugs is if we have some kind of breakdown and I had to shoot at a vehicle. The slugs would easily go though those. On my Shockwave the tube is loaded with Less Than. Side saddle has OO. That one too has a bandolier hanging along with it that's just full of OO I have never quite been able to grasp the stagger slugs and shot. Seems like it would be too hard to keep track of what was next if things ever melted down.

That's why it's not a good idea. More important things to deal with than keeping track of which round is up next.
That's why in 20 round drum 12 gauge what you got to do is just load 20 straight hesh rounds. 20 exploding slugs in 4 seconds makes everything all good. :s0112:

Dragon's Breath for the win in the shottie. That way the house burns down, destroying all the evidence.

So a federal agency? Yea, that explains a lot.

At least we don't live in New Jersey where hollow point and dum-dum (yes, that actual wording in the law) are a crime so you have to load with crappy ammo.

Of course they have this gem as well in the same code section:
Handcuffs. Any person who knowingly has in his possession handcuffs as defined in P.L.1991, c.437 (C.2C:39-9.2), under circumstances not manifestly appropriate for such lawful uses as handcuffs may have, is guilty of a disorderly persons offense.

So I guess you have to justify the ones in the nightstand are "appropriate." I mean, not me, but someone in NJ.
