So I got this cheap JA22... and I'd like to put a threaded barrel on it
The diameter of the original barrel is 9.55mm
The diameter of this longer barrel is about 9.36

I'm thinking if I drill the pin hole and the right extractor notch, maybe shim the barrel a bit, and weld on some 1/2 28 adapter on it, it'll make a fine threaded barrel.

Has anyone here done something silly like that before? Who would I pay to do this :s0114:

You need to thread your original barrel for an extension that is threaded female proximally and male distally 1/2-28. It needs to be flush to barrel outer dimension and over-diameter internally so as to not retard bullet spin. Velzey (RIP) did several for me that way. It would likely cost you $175 at tornado technologies or less with a home based smith with a lathe and experience.

That being said, cheaper to thread it yourself M8x.75 and buy the adapter. If you screw up the perpendicular threading alignment to the bore plane, you will destroy your suppressor, which is worth more than your gun.

Proceed wisely or carefully. Best idea is buy a better pistol that is already threaded.

If you are using this as a practice piece before adding threaded barrels to better hosts by all means go for it. Thread the barrel long as a first go and test away. then measure the free barrel and cut the waste off. you will again get to rethread and recut the muzzle. You will end up with way more in the project than it will ever be worth, but the experience is priceless. DR

I have that exact same gun, SigSour made a threaded barrel for it. It looks awesome with my Liberty Mystic on it.

If it runs, it is awesome and hilariously cool! 😎

If it is a jam-a-matic, it will be an hilarious disappointment. 😢

Hilarious either way

The gun has been jamming previously (FTE)
I think it's cuz the extractor / extractor spring were on the way out.
I just replaced the slide and I think it's going to work better. Hopefully the additional pressure from a longer barrel helps as well.

I also occasionally get a slam fire or full auto on this pistol... little scary.

These were cheaply made from stamped parts. its pretty easy to clean up the extractor parts and sharpen the griping edges. you also should look at the striker to see if any of its edges are rounded over. this was pretty common with these. parts are available and are easy to make new, if you like tinkering. Good Luck DR
