Worse yet, someone will decide that our calling them mountain beavers is an insult that implies that they are dumb backwoods illiterates. And we should be cancelled for using that expression. Then the real beavers will get offended and charge the mountain beavers with cultural appropriation, and threaten to kick their wimpy-tailed @sses outta every pond, creek, and river in Oregon. There will be riots every night in Portland with about a quarter of the rioters supporting the mountain beavers and a quarter supporting the regular beavers and a quarter just liking to riot and a quarter being confused students and alumni of OSU.Oh no. Now someone will initiate a tax to teach them to play violins and dance the Polish polka.![]()

I prefer to be anonymous. I would rather be the guy with a gun that nobody knows has a gun rather than the guy that is taken out first because I have a gun openly displayed on my hip.So I had a interesting and funny encounter today while getting gas.
I had some random guy walk up to me while I'm getting gas today and he tells me that me carrying my firearm openly was illegal. Mind you I'm in the middle of getting gas with pump nozzle in hand and no clue who this rando is.
So I tell him that it's not illegal and I ask him who told him that it was? At this point he kind of looks defeated and upset and walks away without saying anything else to me or anyone else, to which I didn't mind. Guessing he was anti 2A or just doesn't like guns and hoping people don't know the laws.
For context and history, I go lots of places with my OC sidearm ranging from gun friendly to non-gun friendly. Never had an issue before or have someone approach me about it, except a few who have praised me for having it.
What experiences have other folks out there had with things like this?
It seems to be a misconception that people who carry openly or the other things you listed are trying to make a statement. Many people do those things simply because they feel like it or because it makes them happy, why discourage that?I prefer to be anonymous. I would rather be the guy with a gun that nobody knows has a gun rather than the guy that is taken out first because I have a gun openly displayed on my hip.
I have no need to make a statement to anyone, with tattoos, piercings, weird dress, a gun on my hip or even advertisements on my T-shirts. Some people have an innate need to be noticed... I don't.
Yikes!I've already had that happen 3 times this year alone where people have tried to pick a fight with me while I had my kids with me and wouldn't back down until they saw I was carrying.
Not a clue, I don't even bother to talk to most people, people these days are just nuts.Yikes!
I haven't had three people try to pick a fight with me in the past three decades. What gives? Man, that's not good. Especially with your kids with you.
I'd never heard any reason for the term boomer when discussing Mountain Beavers. That's just what Dad called 'em.This
Why are they called Boomers? Do they make a sound?
Like you, I'd heard them called boomers all my life, but that Wikipedia article was the first time I've ever heard an attempted explanation as to why.I'd never heard any reason for the term boomer when discussing Mountain Beavers. That's just what Dad called 'em.
@CLT65 's explanation is interesting.
