I have been going through all my brass, taking the primers out, wet tumbling and sorting. Most of it is from clean ups we do. Found this interesting piece of .243 brass. Have a normal .243 next to it on the right in the pictures.

Looks like someone reamed it out to a .308. Thought it was interesting for a Sunday evening.

Based on what is shown, I'm going to GUESS it's .243 fired in a 30-06 chamber
and the 30-06 is a controlled feed rather than a push feed action.

OR .243 that had been resized to .308 (whence it came) and reloaded as such.
That was my first thought--but the diameter looks too big for .308. Looks closer
to full body size of the case. A side view pic of the two cases and a measurement
of the ID on the bigger one would help!

ETA--apparently .243 is the preferred case to make 35 Remington. Be interesting
to see if the big one has any kind of a shoulder.

243 fired in 308 or 7-08 chamber.

A 308 or smaller 308-family fired in 30-06 makes a nearly straight case with a crimped-looking mouth. No neck at all.

Wonder what round could be created using that blow out .308 if the little remains of the shoulder was trimmed off would the case have a straight enough wall to hold a slug?
