Absolutely awesome information! I didn't even think about bringing a fire extinguisher or a shovel. I'll have to get those items before I go out this week! I guess I also need a table and a chair…lol. Does anybody know if the L1610 place has close parking or will I have to get one of those wheel barrel things to bring everything to that site? I don't want to make 20 trips to and from my car. 😄

I think any spot on the L1610 is drive right up to it. Most all the shooting spots are next to the roads.

Glad the info helps!

I've seen this grow all summer and each time I see it, I wonder... Where's the respect? What happened to it?

Many have learned respect at a young age, but I think it must not be taught anymore. Otherwise, it wouldn't be this bad. Take a look around any forest you visit and you'll see.

Let me know if you find any respect laying around not being used. There's plenty of opportunities to give some away! I found some on Day 3! Five guys with plenty of respect! Nice!

I agree it's a lot of work by yourself. I think that during the 10 years I volunteered at my honey hole pit I was only able to get help for cleaning ups twice. I applaud all that showed up.
Hard sell out here in the boonies.

Not all trash on public land is at a target shooting site (Ask @Rem700..300 and his wife Tracy!). Some is along a trail, some is along the roadways and some at the pullouts. Please help clean up when ever you are out in the woods!

This week's 'Random Act of Cleanup', included all of the above in the Yacolt Burn State Forest! Mainly, the large dump at a pullout area in the photos.

The first day was just to have a look around and get out of the house for an afternoon. I saw an office chair along the 'Old Ugly' trail and thought "What a great place for an office!". But I wondered about the person who might have been sitting in it at the time of its demise, (you'll see in the pics)! Also picked up an empty case of beer, (gee thanks for not leaving me one!), and some other minor trash on that trail.

Stopped along the way to pick up some other minor trash on the roads and spiff up some minor stuff at that shooting site I had recently cleaned. Then I started on the big dump at the pullout area. I knew it was there and it had bothered me all summer. Since no one had cleaned it up yet, I dug into it.

I didn't get too far on the first day, so came back and it took all of the 2nd day, (it was pretty deep with garbage and embedded into the weeds). Multiple syringe needles! Rotted food! Shoes and clothing. Many cigarette lighters, but only 1 empty pack of smokes. No incriminating identification evidence found. Finally, I was happy to get it done just before sundown.

640 lbs, 20 bags, $47.47 dump fee and an office chair with questionable circumstances.

The best part was a visit from an old friend! (You may spot him in a couple pics).

Happy Friday all,
Had a really wet but fun time hunting up Neal Creek today. Only 4 does but like normal, hunting was only half the fun. Cleaned a couple hundred shotgun shells off the top quarry. Another bag of road side trash coming back down the road heading towards the pavement. Cleaned up another bags worth in the big clearing. 44.65116, -122.63648 Found 3 tires and household trash. Went up 10.1e.25.1 road and picked up 2 bags there. We walked up to the landing at the end of where people shoot and found an abandon camp. 44.66595, -122.62387. The tent set up looks like the one that kept moving around last fall but not sure.We peaked inside the tent and it either got sprayed by a skunk or maybe meth?(not sure what it smells like) or ?

Nice work, Craig and Tracy!

Too bad about the hunting part of it! (and the crap you found along the way!).

The camp setup could be a hunting camp, but with the smell situation, who knows! Might need someone to enter and investigate before removing it.

That target on the stump is terrible! I see a roadway beyond!! If they were to miss, it's public endangerment! If they hit, it could be a potential fire hazard on the old stump!

The weird bag thingy, hanging from the tree, needs some explaining!

Thanks for your efforts. Let me know the dump fee cost and Trash No Land will cover it.

I sure appreciate Craig (@Rem700..300 ) and Tracy for doing these consistent 'Random Acts of Cleanups'!!! He is one of the very few who ever post about it. He also sends an email to the forest officials and law enforcement to let them know what they found and what they did (he carbon copies to me too).

Not many people post about their efforts to save target shooting spots, but Craig and Tracy do (they also show a valued 'stewardship' side of helping to cleanup non-shooting sites of simply trash and illegal dump sites). Sometimes I hear from @HighlandLofts or @Caveman Jim (who also notify forest officials about what they found and did), but otherwise it's crickets among SO MANY shooters. I have a hard time believing that with SO MANY shooters out there, that no one else is trying to help save any place to shoot. Makes me wonder if anything is being done by anyone.

I often get emails complaining about certain places that are trashed. They always ask when a cleanup is scheduled for their area. Hell, Mel, I don't know! It's not up to me to clean it up for you! How bout you simply take some trash bags, call up a friend or two and just go get some?! I can't organize enough cleanup events to cover all that's needed, so don't wait for me! Either we need more people involved with the Trash No Land effort or you just have to take the initiative to do it on your own, but little ol me cannot do it all. That's not what I'm here for. I'm here to raise awareness, promote stewardship and prompt action, not just organize events.

So let me know if you do your own 'Random Acts of Cleanups'! It would give me something to report and show that gun owners are doing something good.

Thanks,

Bill

Maybe fentanyl? Wifey has experienced it first hand at the Albertson's she works at. In the restrooms. Funky, indescribable stuff. Dangerous too, second hand, apparently! The skells will go in the bathroom and smoke that junk.

From your description, almost sounds like most of the rubbish this trip is NOT from target shooters? Imagine that?

Thanks for the mention Bill. As of late, since they closed my honey hole, I haven't been active anywhere.
Hopefully someone will take the baton I'm passing and continue my work in this area.
Thanks for all that you do brother. :s0155:

About Us
Saving and improving places to shoot on Public Lands.

Trash No Land is a Washington-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to making a positive difference in recreational target shooting, toward the critical goal of protecting and preserving our public lands.

Education and awareness of rules, ethics, stewardship and safety are the foundations of our mission. We promote awareness and seek solutions surrounding responsible shooting on public lands through our website and social media, at special events and sporting goods stores, and from printed information, photos, and videos. We lead clean-ups at shooting sites in the forests of Washington and Oregon, assist forest management agencies in the development of quality shooting lanes and enhance our message through extensive volunteer efforts to keep these lands clean and safe.

We are an all volunteer organization. No members or staff receive any compensation.

Northwest Firearms members are a big part of our Trash No Land community. It's where we got our start and where the majority of our support comes from. We work for you, for free, because we believe in this cause and we are dedicated to making a positive difference in how our public lands are being treated. We strive to keep good public land places open to shooting, while working to restore the good name of sportsmanship and we diligently promote responsible shooting on our public lands.

'Watch' this thread for information you need about shooting on public lands. I will be posting all kinds of stuff that are of interest to both casual and daily users of public lands for target practice.

Join our organization, as a supporting member, to help keep places to shoot open for us and our future generations.

Trash in the forest is not cool! No one wants to recreate in a pile of trash. Let's help clean it up and improve our image as responsible shooters on public lands!

That is great!

Any outdoor spots near Oregon City?
I haven't heard of anything near OC, but head South to past Mollala & East of Scott's Mills down Family Camp Rd and you can make it to a really nice improved pit in the Santiam State Forest. It's called the BC615 Pit.

Info and GPS is on the interactive map on the TrashNoLand.org home page. (There's a video of it on TNL's YouTube page).

Have fun and keep it clean!

THANK YOU!! 👍
Glad you appreciate it. Keep an eye on the Trash No Land 'Upcoming Events' page for an event near that Eugene area next year. I'm planning to team up with the Izzac Walton League of Eugene for some stewardship action. Or better yet, subscribe to the Trash No Land Blog and you''ll get a notification of each event that comes up.

About ready to just start a thread of Just dumping in the forest.
Tracy and I went for a drive up the Peak today. It had been a while. Once we got out of the fog just as you turn on Mary's Peak road it was a gorgous day. We checked out the BLM pit to see what it looked like. The pit area needs a definite clean up. I havent seen it this bad in a long while. Someone also figured out how to get their truck back there and 4wheel also. Will see if I can get the group from work before January and get lucky with the weather. We picked up the gate area and parking lot to fill 2 bags. Shooting glass bottles seemed to be the theme. Stopped and picked up trash as we drove up to the 3000 line. Most of the spots going down the 3000 line were pretty good. The lower gravel pad was occupied but looked pretty good. Went back up and went left at the T. Picked up a bunch of cans and garbage at a camping site on a spur road. Just down the road we started seeing more trash in front of another spur. Well we found another homeless dumping area. Coordinates are, 44.51373, -123.59506. Pretty are those are correct. We picked up the mess and headed home. Please forward to the FS if the mess was on their land.
Fun day even with the big mess. The pictures up to the panaramic sunny day are the quarry.
Afterwards is the homeless camp.
