My youngest son finally gets done with Army AIT next week. Almost 14 months in training . One of the Army's longest schools. 68A Biomedical Equipment Specialist. Medical Corps stuff. Not quite top of his class but a good second. He'll take it. Heading home for a few weeks for recruiter duty then onto his permanent duty station at Fort Campbell to work in a Veterinary clinic of all things. Chill duty. Setting up a fishing charter now.

Treasure all the moments you have with your son, now and always.

In an ecosystem that buys $700 toilet seats, and $400 claw hammers, I wish I could say, "I'm amazed the government invests all that ungodly amount of money training a soldier in a technically advanced MOS... only to stick them in a veterinary clinic".

Was his enlistment commitment more than the usual 2-4 years being that MOS has 12 month AIT duration?

He's assigned to a veterniary clinic but attached to a larger shop unit under a CWO. We dont know how any of that is going to play out yet. I told him theres a relatively good chance he's going to end up as a utility guy but he's been talking to his sponsor in his detachment who says its not like that. .

That MOS requires a 6 year enlistment. No signing bonus. One of the tougher technical MOS's to make it through AIT and he had to have transcripts from his math classes ready when he signed up. Those guys walk out the door into 6 figure jobs.

Well at least he's smart. My MOS qualified me to be a janitor. Lol.

Carl?

It's good to know that our K9 solders will be receiving the care they deserve.
Best wishes for your son's career.
I had to look into that . The unit he's attached to is a full service clinic handling k9 , horses , they have horses I guess in Campbell, and regular military personnel cats and dogs. Never thought about the Army having a open policy for on post famiilies with pets but apparently they do.

Nice to know about the family pets receiving qualified care. :)
Just so long as he knows to steer clear of the cougars that may be looking for more than treatment for a family pet. :s0062:

He was bent out of shape because he had to get a haircut the other day . Apparently theyre cracking down on hair length under Hegseth and its 2" max length . I'm like oh, you poor, poor soldier.

Just a tad bit out of regs. Haha. Marine Corps was 3 inches on top. I had almost 9 while I was in and full sleeve tattoos which I should have been NJPd for at the time. Had to get a hair cut before my last yearly swim qual. My MSGT said, "I know your hair is way out of regs. I don't have a problem with it because of the way you style it and present yourself….. but if I get chewed out because you show up in water with that long of hair you will loose rank."

Needless to say I went and got a hair cut. It was a good run.

I also had 9 inches.

Hah ! My "MOS" was being the shortest one in the fire team.
"Give him the BAR"
I had to wait until I got out for the Air Force to train me for something I could use on the outside. (Turbine Engine Mech). :)

Like the saying goes, " I didn't have an M.A., a B.S., or any other letters, but I always had a JOB. :)
