Was wondering what your thoughts were on hunting deer size game and smaller with a 357 mag with or without a scope. I am debatting on a trade for a 357 mag or a 45 colt both are Rugers thanks.
I too would go with a .44 mag over a .357 for hunting, however if you are as strapped for cash as I am then buying .38 specials will allow you to shoot more often.
Any, either, or. I too wouod choose a bigger hole but a .357 will work. Be sure and get a good hit, closer the better. Id pick a heavy JSP for the .357 and a cast bullet for the. 45 Colt.
Had a friend a few years back used a S&W 686 stainless, 6" .357 mag on a deer hunt with us near Rifle, CO. Dropped a muley buck with one shot. When we skinned it the trauma to the ribs was horrendous. Black and blue about 8" in diameter around the entrance hole. You have to be fairly close and have to do your part with shot placement but it definitely can be done.
