We had a "valley blizzard" four days ago, but it was all gone by 9am. First snow of this winter. A friend took a picture on his way to the golf course.

It was 60 degrees at the range today.

Agree! I'm over in Sunriver at a water conference and it raining here too. Was hoping for snow, even the pass was clear.

We've had a mild winter in my north Puget Sound lowlands neighborhood this year. We've only had a couple of nights that were at or below freezing, lowest being 30F. We don't typically get all that much snow but this year none. So far. Now that it's March, I'm thinking it probably isn't going to happen. Yet you never know, we've had snow as late as the end of March in my nearly 40 years here. The fruit trees are already in flower, the lupines are starting to come up. The warming trend has begun.

My pal who lives in Scranton, Penna. has had a very hard winter this year. Plenty of days where the daily high got never got above freezing. This is why houses cost less in Scranton. He has an old wood frame house, has to go down to the basement frequently to make sure his pipes aren't freezing.

Last week, I watched a Youtube video by a guy who was showing off new homes for sale in Russia. In a place called Shmidtovo, near Ufa. In one of the Russian Federation republics, Bashkortostan. Nice brick building, not big, 85 sq. meters, which is about 914 sq. ft. Lot size about 700 sq. meters. It looked like quality construction, no kitchen or bath fixtures included, those you buy and install after you have the building. Price, $109K. USD.

The down side. In the area around Ufa, the daily high doesn't get above freezing for nearly half the year. Lots of snow. Ufa isn't quite in Siberia, but it's a long way from the rest of European Russia.

The guy filming this video is Australian, married to a Russian wife. I later looked it up, foreigners cannot buy property in Russia unless they have a residence permit. So I guess marrying a Russian would be the quickest route.

Previously, I had arranged for a tradesman to come out and wash off my metal roof. As he was leaving, he told me the weather was supposed to turn cold next week. So I looked up the 14 day forecast, sure enough next Tuesday shows a forecast low of 31F. We'll see if it happens. They get it wrong often enough.

Now the weather forecast calls for 35F overnight low on Tuesday. But looking ahead, it says overnight low of 29F on 3-15. So we'll wait a bit longer before the cactus plants go outside for the "good" weather.
