"Chick" is not usually used by females who respect themselves or other women. So her using it suggests a desire to hook up with men who don't respect her or other women and prefer females who don't respect themselves.

It undoubtedly is not considered as derogatory as it once was. But, assuming you're male, you aren't the right one to say how women feel about it. Looked around on internet and found perspectives from women saying that they still didn't like it, and considered it more a word men used talking with each other than a word they would like to hear from a male addressing or talking about them.

The female secretaries in the office probably still don't like being referred to as "girls", however many men half their age are quite sure it's fine.
