My advice, for what it's worth?.......

Get used to shooting. Practice safe handling, then practice some more. And some more. Then get proficient with a handgun. Then even more. Take a class or three in the meantime. Find a holster system that works. Then apply for your CHL.

It's not just about being interested, then carrying.

YMMV.

You will get allot of advice on what to buy, but I would advise buying something you will want to keep along time. I got my first CC handgun along time ago and still wont sell it. I have other guns before it but my first to carry with me is not for sale just something about passing on a legacy of your first carry gun, you wont think much about it now in 20 years you will if you traded or sold it. This forum is full of darn I shouldn't have sold that postings.
 
I would never recommend diving into the deep end without LOTS of practice in the shallow end.

Responsible carry is just that and more.
