This is a question for people who own a currently made (Circa 2021 - Bought NIB) Glock 42 pistol.

Do you like this pistol compared to your other Glock pistols and compared to other 380 acp caliber pistols?

What is your favorite factory brand name and bullet weight ammunition in FMJ and in JHP for your pistol?

Have you used some factory ammo in a specific name and grain/bullet weight that you do not like to use in this Glock model and, if so, can you name them please?

I read an old thread about this pistol using the search engine but I do not see anything up to date.

Thank you!

Not exactly 2021 new, but I don't think Glock has changed the 42 since inception. With that said my wife chose it. Here are her reasons.

The 42 is smaller than the 43. For that reason my wife liked it more than the 43. She ultimately likes the G19, but that isn't exactly concealable on her frame. It's also bigger than most tiny 380s like the LCP and such. With a +1 or +2 magazine plate she can get a full grip, I sort of can but that doesn't matter. The LCP was still a bit small with a mag plate extension for her. Size played a role in her picking. A bit larger and less snappy helped a lot over the tiny guns. She didn't like the added recoil of similar sized 9mms like the 43 or Sig. She has tried my usual carry, a Diamondback DB9, which is very close in size to the 42, and says the recoil sucks for its size and weight. So 380 definitely makes it manageable at this size.

The Glock eats everything and recoiled less than the LCP sized 380s. As well as drastic noticeable difference to slightly larger 9mms. Ammo is not really an issue. It eats every brand and type we tried in it. Usually it has Hornady Defense loads in it when carried. I want to say Critical Defense is the name of them. They usually only have one weight I think in that ammo from Hornady.

Hope this helps.

You will need ammo with a minimum of 185 ft/lbs muzzle energy in order for the G42 to cycle 100%. Anything less than that, our G42 will FTF/FTE

The 42 is easier to shoot than the Kahr P380. Not as easy to shoot as larger 380's.

I hand load for 380. For the Glock, Kahr and Ruger pistols I have found medium to hot ammo works. Lighter ammo tends to malfunction. The issue is the small pistol size requires smaller heavier recoil springs and less mass is available to control recoil of the slide. They have to be tuned for self defense ammo so they tend to be over sprung for lighter ammo. I use HXP or round nose bullets near max loads of powder.

Interesting hearing this. Ours eats anything.

Reno,

My husband's Glock 42 was special ordered. Thanks for your input.

He wanted a smaller pistol for some clothing. (See the other New Glock thread here if needed.)

He did a ton more research all over and I tried to do this for him too.

Take care and thank you.

My husband picked up his NIB Glock 42 from his FFL man last Friday afternoon.

Our dealer and friend is great when it comes to customer service, etc.

My husband shot it on Sunday morning, it shot great, was flawless, no issues, good groups, etc.

He shot it and he let his friend shoot it a bit too.

He picked up some ammunition earlier last week as I stated in another thread here.

He used Remington FMJ - 95 grain and it came in a small tub/bucket. The ammo was clean and looked good. They did not show it on the store's website but it was in stock at our local store.

He and his friend were the only 2 people at our range at 8 AM. Bitter cold weather!

He may pick up some Hornady or Federal ammo for this pistol this week too.

He picked up a holster and another extra (Third.) Glock brand magazine for the G42 on Sunday afternoon at another store.
