It helps that I don't really need to learn anything new to use the rifle. Pretty much like using a Mauser.

Now if Ruger made the Hawkeye in 8mm Mauser I'd been happier!

I have thought about some custom calibers using a savage action as I understand it you can headspace these barrels with nothing more than a barrel nut wrench and a loaded cartridge providing you keep in mind your cartridge head size. I think this might be a very affordable method of getting a good utilitarian rifle. Problem is I only ever saw one savage bolt rifle that I liked and that one was actually built by Sile of Italy for savage.
