I'm clueless about gunsmithing. I'm doing a scout build for my bubba'd mosin. Anyone know how I could get rid of this front sight? I'm guessing I would have to shorten the barrel for it. Don't really want to take it to a gunsmith or anything. 15254664910791870682003357778156.jpg 15254665245824163540105234190475.jpg 1525466549619261840919791039393.jpg

To hard to tell from the pictures if there a cross pin or if it is threaded on.

It looks press fit, its definitely an aftermarket sight, and I don't see any pins or obvious evidence of brazing. Chuck it in a vise and whack it with a punch to see if it moves. Use some wood or other padding in the vise.

It looks like it might be made of aluminum as well, some heat might persuade it to move.

If your 100% certain it is coming off.

Place in vice and twist, if it is thread, it will move, if it is press fit, it will move.

If it doesn't move, could be pinned, could be a set screw under the blade, could be soldered on.

like I said if your 100% certain it is coming off, you'll find a way.

Suppose to be held in place with silver solder. But I've seen them held in place with red locktite or jb weld or the like.
I've also seen several with a single set screw under the sight blade iteself.
Heat it with a hot hair dryer or heat gun and tap.
