Sorry to hear! That's pretty scary stuff.

Just wait until all the drunk solar eclipse partiers in the woods. How many wildfires will they start?
How many will be trapped?

That's going to get pretty nasty.

I hope your property and those around you are safe

I have a truck with a 2,000 gallon tank, fire pump, hose reel, and 500 feet of extra hose. I qualifies for a Forestry fire rig, which is how I justify it, but I keep it around the home during fire season. I'm prepared for the eclipse! ;)

wow glad you are OK.

my check list of things to throw out the window first (i have a single story house btw)

kids
wife
guns

everything else is replaceable in my eyes

What do they do for water? Air drops?
Brush rigs with 200 gallons water on board with hose and pump are first-in and attack the fire.
Fire crew has a 4 foot deep portable pool maybe 20 feet in diameter.
Throws it together real fast. A 6" pipe (drafting) manifold clamps to the side of the pool.
Water truck (10,000 gallons or so) backs up to pool and dumps it's load, then heads to the nearest water source to refill, returning to dump again.
Engines (pumper trucks) low on water, pull-up to the pool manifold, hook up big rigid hose (6") and suck water into it's tank,
If called for, several engines in a row will draft from pool (or pond) and push water to the next engine and on up the hill.
Each engine can deploy inch and a half hoses from the engines to cool the fire line.

Hope this was understandable,

Thank you! Every time I put in a video, it shows up twice. If I delete one, it still shows up. Weird.

Had a large brush fire about half a mile from my house....due to a slash burn from recently logged property. Lots and lots of dry pasture could have gone up like kindling if not for our brave firefighters!

Yup, came across that Sunday after they put it out. I heard later that the ashes/etc. were blowing quite a ways away. It is a good thing the woods up here are relatively wet and they decided to burn while still wet. Last few summers it has been really dry.

Go by there every day on my way home (go down another route in the morning). I live just a little further away than you.

Saw last week they were burning the piles, then Friday it seemed the fires had burned down. But it continues to burn underground. Happened a few times over here (not far from there) when neighbors clearcut and then burnt their piles - but we were really careful and kept an eye on things and we didn't have a lot of debris by the piles - we (I helped the neighbors) pushed most of the debris into the piles. Plus our piles were not as huge as those, we had a bunch of smaller piles. I only had three - I thinned - and they didn't burn for as long.

One of the neighbor's piles did try to spread, but we got it under control.

The team at the Laurel firehouse is used to this. They come up here several times a year every summer. Except for some of the fields where the grass/hay has been cut already, everything is still pretty wet. Not that it wouldn't be bad, but it would be worse later in the summer when it gets really dry.

Yep, that is what I've been doing for years and it's only recently started doing it. Sometimes it also does double posts even though I only click once, or opens two dialogue boxes instead of one.
