    Finally, somebody gets it...

"...we have too much concern about privacy, labeling and stereotyping, about the civil liberties of people who have horrifically distorted thinking. In our concern for the rights of people with mental illness, we have come to neglect the rights of ordinary Americans to be safe from the fear of being shot — at home and at schools, in movie theaters, houses of worship and shopping malls."

How about "free from the fear"? Nit pick if you like, but at least here's a professional writing in the NYT and saying it's not PRIMARILY guns that are the problem.

People, we gun owners have a problem. People are mistakenly calling for our heads because of the actions of a few seriously crazy people who used guns to carry out their violent fantasies. We need to get real and support any voice that directs the attention of the general public away from the "obvious" solution, the useless crusade to destroy all firearms. Or we can continue to keep our heads where the moon doesn't shine and get legislatively lynched. It's your choice. Let's not stupidly insist on people seeing things exactly as we do.

Zig, you make a great point. When we are handed a gift horse, we shouldn't look in it's mouth.

Well, I just wish it'd brush it's teeth, 'cause it still smells a bit rank. ;)
