Looking for some advice on getting a FFL License pro's & con's. I am retired General Contractor and a childhood friend a retired First Sergeant, we are getting restless with retirement. Looking for something we would both be interested in. We are both about 56 and we would both be willing to put up 250k each. Not looking to get rich just make a few bucks and have something to do. Just talking about it while we are reloading ammo. Any advice from other FFL Dealers Mike.

A good place to start is with the ATF. Their website is pretty helpful. I believe they have online applications or a place on the site to order an application packet. You can find the closest office to you, probably Portland, and give them a call. They have usually been very easy to talk to and want to form a positive partnership with dealers to ensure that things are done correctly. They will tell you everything you need to do to get started. Once your application is filled out, they will come to inspect your place of business. Ask them questions, they will probably help you to get going in the right direction.

Paperwork seems pretty important to them, so that is an area to pay close attention to. If you get going, I would be happy to feed you info as you need it. I may even give away a few closely kept secrets I've learned. This one is free:

If you aren't looking to get rich, just pay the bills and meet a lot of nice people, go for it. With forums like this you can get your name out and do quite a bit of business. Sounds like fun to me............

Back in the days of "FREE AMERICA" I would have enjoyed this myself. Unfortunately, in these days of the American Soviet Socialist Republiks, the government can tromp into your home or place of business, kick you around, take your property or destroy it, and do ANYTHING to you they please! I often wonder if Hitler is able to look up into this country and see how many of his policies have been adopted by US Government, INC. ( The 1968 Amerikan gun law is based on 1938 Nazi gun law! For proof, JPFO.)

Getting the ffl is easy, it does open you up to search at your business. but there are a lot of myths out there also. Call the ATF for more information. they are actually very helpful. they want you to succeed within their rules.

that being said. it is not an easy business. there is a lot of players in the game, and the rules are very strict and specific. so reinventing the wheel or a new wheel is difficult.

either way if you have the capital, the knowledge, and are willing to deal with the paperwork, restrictions, and rules, then call the ATF.
