A shop local to me has a S&W 27-2, 6" barrel on consignment for $1100. It's in pretty good condition and has a smooth trigger pull, as well as no major wear or dings. For those of you more in the know, does that seem like a fair price? I've taken a look at completed gunbroker listing, and the prices are all over the place. For similar listings I've seen them around the $750-1000 range, more if it has a box and any documentation.

Seems fair.
Checking some boxes. Blueing looks good, stocks are very nice, overall condition is good or better.

Questions i would have; year of manufacture? Grips original? Front sight correct? Can I take a peek at frame under the grips? Also, see the actual trigger under that shoe.

Condition is everything. It has an aftermarket trigger shoe on it. Also not a "Target Hammer" as a common
addition on 27-2 6 inch. It has some nice correct "Football" Target Grips. Nice condition. I think it is worth it.

Is there any specific year to look for or look out for? I was also curious on the year, it appears there is a serial number behind the cylinder. Is this the correct place to find the serial or do the grips have to come off?

I think you are right. Consignment guns have to profit both owner and shop. Patience, I say, as an even better example will show up.

This is more subjective than anything.
Certain spans of manufacturing years are more desirable to Smith fans. For me, it would be a personal thing. Buying birth year guns , or years with a special meaning.

EVERYTHING is "worth" what someone will pay for it. Only you can really decide. You have to give it a good look and then ask yourself, how bad do I want this particular gun? As you mentioned you have seen ads for some for less but, if they have to be sent to you then you are looking at more cost by the time you can lay hands on it. Want this gun? Have cash? Buy the thing and enjoy it. If you do one rule. You need to post some pics for the rest of us to look at and wish we had it :D

Eye of the beholder...
To me it seems about $300 too high priced. That is a substantial turn line on the cylinder indicating possible timing issues or abuse. Buggered looking screw head on the side plate too.

A new Model 27 retails for a little over $1200.
Which would any of you prefer, this one or a new one?
(pretty sure I know the answer to that question)

This sure looks like a 6" gun to me.
