I noticed the featherweight variant uses a screw on endcap which could mean a tube extension has a chance of being installed. While the standard model 12 uses the double screw and locking pin system which seems too hard to modify and would require cutting it and re welding?

If you were successfull... Parts used? What brands?

Side note. I did find that the 1897 and 1912 use the same heatshield bayonet lug.

For my 1897 Winchester project trench gun I bought a new spring and follower that gives you an extra shell.
I didn't want to mess with extending the tube.
One note of caution, if you're thinking of installing a heat shield, I would avoid the ones sold by Numrich Gun Parts.
They're flimsy and don't stay in place.
