I know ive posted this pic before. This is why I dont bear hunt or eat bears. They are nasty.....these worms where not in the stomach, they where in the chest cavityView attachment 2133916View attachment 2133918

The biggest one, the leader, wrapped himself around my wrist while I was gutting it. Just kill the bear and roll it over the bank. They are right there with coyotes in my opinion
Why in the world would you gut a bear? I think it's been a decade since I've gut out anything for that matter. Leave it in the carcass, my guy. Bear meat is delicious

(For the record I have gotten trich from under cooked bear and I still love it. Especially fall bear full of berries)

Human urine can dissuade bears...maybe take a wiz or three by the cans / problem areas.... :D
When I was very young, one of my father's many bizarre proverbs was "You know you are living free when you can piss anywhere wish on your property." All these decades later, that charming epigram still comes to mind most times I answers nature's call on the acreage. 🤭

A wise man! I only have 10 acers but its big enough to piss wherever I want

I ate some black bear taken on Prince of Wales Island in Alaska that was tremendous. It had been feeding on primarily berries and the hind quarters were cured and smoked just like a ham. Witbout doubt the best wild game I've ever had.
And I'm with you. Haven't gutted a big game animal in decades. Much easier.

Pretty hard to get to the gal bladder and reproductive tract without spilling the guts out. Plus we open there bellies to get sample of what they are feeding on. Blood, tissue samples and collect any ticks on them too

So, we have a black bear visit quite often this summer, sometimes very close to the house; as in touching the porch at least once. His main antics, however, has been getting into the garbage cans that are farther away from the dwelling, close to one of the outbuildings. A couple of which he lunched. I believe I've resolved that by installing those heavy duty straps on the cans. If that doesn't do it, I'm going to invest in those big, sturdy metal locking setups that fully enclose the cans.

The times he's showed up during the day, I just got kiddos in the house and an appropriate firearm ready, if needed. I've seen / heard / smelled him at other times in the forest surrounding our house. I don't want to dispatch him unless required and within the guidelines Oregon sets forth.

Whilst farting around the web, I came across non-lethal noise makes that can be launched from a 12-gauge. Appears to be like the bird bombs, but for bruins. Anyone ever use these? Thanks.

How about the little trip wire 12 gauge shell holders? They are cheap and work well. Could use a pepper spray round.

Amazon sells a six pack of them for $36. Called perimeter trip alarm.

I bought USA made ones from these guys and they work great. Amazons are probably just knockoffs of these.

Maybe 12 gauge doesn't have enough pepper to work though I don't know. I suppose a person could do the same thing but with bear spray instead of the trip alarm with some McGiverin'. But that would get expensive unless it worked the first time and he never came back.

This woudl solve the issue of 12 gauge being an inadequate load of pepper. A whole can worth of this stuff close to the bear woudl send him off I woudl think. Maybe never to return?

Step 1:

Step 2: make it a modular setup you can put on any garbage can and sell them. (Kidding!) :s0112:
