Just spreading the word until Amazon figures this out. I got a counterfeit optic when I purchased from Amazon. Now I have to check my serial numbers to make sure the rest aren't fake but apparently other people are having the same issue.

I was recently watching a YT video on gimmicky, useless or poor quality gun accessories and this was addressed IE, cheap or counterfeit optics.

It was mentioned some of them are not even intended for firearms but airguns, airsoft etc.

The problem isn't completely on Amazon. Fraudsters order legit items and submit a return of a fake item. Amazon doesn't necessarily spot the fake, then it gets sold to the next victim.

The only criteria needed to sell on Amazon is being able to pay the parent company a ransom for selling cheap junk. eBay and many others are just as bad.

Amazon has active scammers and too many China shippers now.

They need to change policy to where products have to ship from a US location annd have US retailers only instead of China or wherever else. Once I check the seller, shipping location info and shipping time, that usually answers my questions.. I try to avoid them as they'll actively scam folks. Amazon will do a semi decent job of refunding.. but sometimes they'll only offer a credit or won't accept the return.

It's dumb because you would think Amazon is a trusted retailer
They often use 3rd party sellers for some items.
Look for the "fullfilled by" seller.
Sometimes it's Amazon and sometimes it's another company.

Once your settled on an optic brand, go to their website and find their approved reseller list.
That's a good starting point.
Lacking that, Cameraland, EuroOptic and Sport Optics are some reputable optic resellers.

Duh? Amazon is not a reputable retailer, and issues with their products have been documented for years. I only buy stuff I can tolerate being junk from there. Anything that has to meet any kind of quality requirements I find an actual reputable source and get it from there. If that source has an Amazon link then fine, but at least I know some other company other than Amazon is then backing the product. If it comes from Amazon itself (or an affiliated company that is only on Amazon) all bets are off.

Take fuses for example;

I am sorry, a 2 amp rated fuse blowing at ~8-10 amps is not acceptable or safe, and despite this issue being documented over a year ago Amazon is still selling that listing. Not only that they seem to be blocking a lot of the reviews calling out the out-of-spec safety issues.

Amazon knows, they just don't care. The number of people who notice and return bad products is dwarfed by the number of people who just don't care, and the profit margins on their junk far outweigh the costs of eating returns for unhappy customers.

And if you do buy from Amazon, learn to like their return process and take advantage of it for every tiny little issue. They are counting on you to not do that, but the cost of that process is built into the price of their products. You might as well use it.

I'm very familiar with that process. I won't absorb anything that I don't like, no matter how low the cost.

When you look at any product on Amazon they're 99.9% cheap Chinese products. Maybe that should have been the first clue!

Yea thanks buddy. Real helpful
Input u have there lol. The seller was listed as Aimpoint itself. Luckily their return policy is top tier. So it's a good thing Amazon isn't a cheap Chinese company itself.

I was playing video games with a guy and the topic of guns came up. He admitted to me that he'll order legit optics from amazon, then replace and return a counterfeit one. The people processing the returns have no way to tell they're fake. Pretty scummy thing all around
