Like the Win. Model 1905 and 1907. Models I've never owned nor been tempted to own. They are beautifully made, like Winchester products of their time. But I was never interested in the strange cartridges they were chambered for. Not of a sporting nature, and in my own time, very costly to shoot. I'm thinking .32 Win. SL and .351 Win. SL. The US Carbine M1 was similar enough, yet manufactured in large quantities and ammo was never much of a problem. It can be a bit pricey now, but for a long time there was plenty of surplus to go around.

Another kind of prison rifle was the Remington Model 8, contemporary with the Win. self loaders. But the Rem. was chambered in arguably sporting cartridges. I've owned a Model 8 and a later Model 81. While they worked well enough, I never thought they were of quite the quality of finish as the Win. SL's.

I don't know if I've ever even held a Winchester Self Loader. They have been old and pretty much obsolete as long as I can remember, at least back to the early 70's.

I did have a Remington Autoloading Rifle in 35 Remington, which was the Model 8 before it received a model #. It was a funky, but cool rifle. The perceived recoil from that long recoil action is rather unique.

I have looked at and held a few of the Winchester Self Loader rifles.
I like the quality of the rifle...and the feel / balance of it.
Ammo. availability made it not possible for me to buy or shoot one.

Would be neat to see 'em re-made in a more common caliber.
However I have no doubt that to do so would be cost prohibitive...as well as the lack of demand for the model.
