I just used spare wood. Saw a few different designs.. But wanted more mounting space as a catch-all.

Went with a 4x4 for a center post about 4 feet, went with a 2x6 flat top design for the top deck which my plate carrier can slide over the top of (not mounted or pictured). The Flat top 2x6 acts as a table top for a pistol/pistol case..etc.

I had just a standard kit/cross design but notice the footing could be used as a platform For additional storage, so I cut The center out of a panel of wood, slid it down, affixed it to the base and reattached my top deck 2x6. So now I keep ammo cans at the base.

I went more the most mounting space I could get out of it. Hooks on the sides carry my other gear and hooks in the front hold my ear protection.
