Trust me when I say you want a turbo on a diesel.
It depends on what it is for. A lot of small stationary diesels don't have turbos, especially older ones. For any kind of motor vehicle or prime mover? Yes - lots of benefit there. Even large marine diesels often have turbos (the turbo itself is larger than most large trucks) - not sure about the HUGE diesels (the ones that run at maybe 200 RPM).

If it wasn't for turbos, semis in mountains would be a lot of worse. If they can even get enough air to move.
 
I dunno anymore, if I could squeeze a 6 71 two stroke detroit diesel into a pickup economically I would take that. Supercharged with a turbo would be cool. Nothing sounds like a two stroke detroit. Truly obnoxious😃😃
