And then people got in "milspec" in more detail, and the brands to get for a bit were Colt and LMT. And then there was the brief panic over LMT using MIM gas keys, and then….
And 4140 vs 4150 vs. CMV...Ahh...the OG dramas of the AR community...good times.

Now days the drama is is still here, we just complain about different stuff, like nickel boron and 9310.

Remember all the borescope photos of SS barrel throats 'proving' that they were subpar, or maybe the bEsT ThInG eVeR depending on the poster preconceived point of view? :s0114:

Not the firm formerly in Mass. who made "real" M16's under contract for the US Gov't during the Vietnam era. Name now in use by Palmetto Armory.

Famous old firearms manufacturer names that go out of business and get recycled. High Standard, Iver Johnson, Marlin, etc. Not always to the upside of the product. Or should I say, not often to the upside.

Yes, fully aware of the PSA connection; also, they (PSA) owns Nodak Spud and that's who's doing the H&R retro stuff on PSA website. Currently they're considered one of the go to for retro ARs

Yeah the nodak guy is pretty respectable. I woulda bought his stuff more than once if it was in stock when I was having retro urges.

Honestly, it'd be awesome to find the following specs;

True Pencil profile, 0.625 gas block diameter, with full size gas block journal; 16" Rifle Length Dissipator barrel with pinned A1/A2 front sight base/tower (not an F marked/F-height one), chrome lined, 1:7 twist, and phosphate coated barrel.

I'm tired of the options being basically a choice of

Nitride

1:9

Heavy barrel and 0.750 gas block,

F-marked front sight base/ tower.
